I was driving to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned today...
...and turned my local AM rightwing radio to see what's up with the nutballs.
Couldn't stand it for more than about a minute, but during that time, the local screamer said:
1) Masks are ineffective. Several times. A hundred years of data says so.
2) The vaccines are ineffective and dangerous... a plot to make money for Big Pharma.
3) The Covid body count is inflated. Maybe 100,000 dead, but probably not even that many.
4) This whole pandemic response is just a worldwide attempt at controlling people. and taking their freedom.
5) We can't trust ANYthing the government tells us about this whole thing. Especially Dr. Fauci. He's making money from the vaccines.
My question: At what point does "free speech" become "yelling fire in a crowded theater"? At what point does this kind of damaging mis-information become too much for our country to bear?
Mini-rant... 538 has Biden at 53.6% approval.... 39.6% disapproval....
Fucking Rasmussen has 47% approval... 51% disapproval.
A Marist/NPR poll shows 84% of Repubs disapprove of the job Biden is doing.
WTAF is wrong with people? (That's a rhetorical question...I KNOW what's wrong with those people.)

I ventured to our local rightwingnut AM radio station this morning.
The Cult of Rush is a subset of the Cult of trump.
It's Rush Memorial Radio...full time. Rush quotes and sound bites, tributes from brain-dead callers. Tears, even. Ad nauseam.

The actual leader of the Republicans in Michigan says the Insurrection Riot was a hoax, and that Mitch McConnell was in on it.

"Mike Shirkey, the Republican leader of the Michigan Senate and GOP, said in a private conversation that the protesters in Washington, DC in January that led the Capitol riots were 'prearranged' and that the entire thing was a 'hoax'.
In the video, which was first reported by the Detroit Metro Times, Shirkey was meeting with Hillsdale County Republicans for censure for multiple issues, including his support on the ban of open carry of firearms inside the Michigan Capitol.
About halfway through the meeting, Shirkey was asked about "the DC thing", referring to the riot that ended with five people including a Capitol Police Officer dead.
Shirkey responded by saying it "wasn't Trump. That's been a hoax since day one and it was all prearranged." He said they were brought in on busses and "arranged by someone who was funding it." Shirkey then questioned why there wasn't enough guards there and said it was ridiculous and all staged. He then said that then-Senate leader Mitch McConnel (R-Kentucky) was part of it."

My campaign fund budget has recovered - somewhat - from November, and even though I live in a different state, I'll send him some money. But I'd like to hear from DUers who know about him.
Boebert has got to go.
Imagine if we had a pandemic and 350,000 kids died of that virus....
437,000 Covid deaths in the US... so far. Heading toward over 600,000, according to the IHME. About 350,000 of those are in people over 55, with the greatest number over 70.
Imagine if we had a pandemic that killed 350,000 kids, and the age of victims was primarily under 15, with the numbers skewing toward those under 10.
Too awful to contemplate.
This will not be our last pandemic. We MUST develop plans, and the ability to implement those plans. We MUST have the infrastructure in place the next time, and ready to go. That includes dealing with deniers and other threats to public health.
Even Dubya had a plan, Obama had a plan, and now Biden has a plan. We have got to pressure our government to institutionalize those plans so that an inept President can't drop the ball the way trump did.

What happened
Brock, a retired Air Force officer, was seen in photos in the Capitol wearing a green helmet, tactical vest and military patches. After he was identified in photos holding plastic zip-tie handcuffs, he gave an interview to The New Yorker. The story stated Brock said he had gone to D.C. to demonstrate peacefully after hearing the president ask his supporters to be there.
What say DUers to this idea for the upcoming Sedition Riots...
Normally, I'm all "free speech, civil rights, limit the cops", but for the upcoming 2 or 3 assaults on our legitimate government, why not use sound weapons?
