The Biden Foundation - ENDING THE SCOURGE OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
Since Joe Biden wrote the Violence Against Women Act of 1994, our culture has changed for the better. Gender-based violence is no longer considered a private issue or a family matter, and the fight to end it is now front and center in our national dialogue.
But there is more work to be done. Despite significant progress annual rates of domestic violence decreased by 64 percent from 1994 to 20101 the figures have remained all too high for our nations young people.

Beau Biden's Legacy
The Biden Foundation will continue to support Beaus belief and work that all children should be free from the threat of sexual abuse. Beau always said that adults have a moral and legal obligation to stand up and speak out for children who are being abused, as they often cannot speak for themselves.
The Foundation will carry on the shared passion of Joe and Beau, collaborating with the Beau Biden Foundation for the Protection of Children, building on successful strategies, and finding new ways to advance and sustain child safety across the country.
We have already seen the progress that can be made when society commits to shining a bright light on a crime like domestic violence, and the same can be accomplished if we continue shining that bright light on child abuse. Beau Biden

Youth Leads
Youth LEADS (Leverage, Energize, and Define Solutions) is a Biden Foundation initiative to combat gender-based violence among youth by providing young leaders with the platforms, network, and organizational support they need to create change. Youth LEADS looks to young people to drive the solutions that will change the culture and end violence in their communities.
Despite decades of progress towards ending gender-based violence, time seems to have stood still for young people. Eighty percent of sexual assault victims experienced their first assault before they were 25. But while teens and young adults face the highest rates of domestic and sexual violence, they are rarely tapped to identify solutions to this problem.
EMPOWERING YOUNG LEADERS
In 2018, the Biden Foundation launched Youth LEADS to include young voices in the ongoing conversation around gender-based violence. The Youth LEADS team facilitated 15 listening sessions across the country, working directly with young leaders and organizational partners to:
Identify trends that perpetuate cycles of violence
Amplify the voices of youth within their communities
Educate policy makers and stakeholders about the needs of youth

Biden Foundation Launched to Continue Former Vice President's Work
Former Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, have announced the launch of the Biden Foundation, a charitable organization committed to advancing rights and opportunities for all people.
Building on the Bidens' previous work in government and the private sector, the foundation's priority areas will range from shaping foreign policy, advancing the Obama administration's "moonshot" cancer initiative, and supporting community colleges and military families, to protecting children, ensuring equal rights for all, ending violence against women, and strengthening the middle class.
Former Sen. Ted Kaufman (D-DE), Valerie Biden Owens, Mark Gitenstein, Mark Angelson, and Jeffrey Peck will serve on the foundation's board, while Louisa Terrell will serve as executive director. Initial funding for the foundation comes from private donations, including gifts of between $500,000 and $1 million from the Bohemian Foundation, Scott Miller and Tim Gill, Gerret and Tatiana Copeland, and Peter and Georgia Angelos. To be headquartered in Washington, D.C., the foundation does not and will not accept contributions from foreign citizens, organizations, or governments.
"We look forward to this new chapter where we will continue our work to ensure that everyone no matter their income level, race, gender, age, or sexuality is treated with dignity and gets a fair shot at achieving the American dream," said the couple in a statement. "That's why we are honored that a group of long-time friends and supporters have begun the work of founding the Biden Foundation to build on our lifelong commitment to issues that have always motivated us."

In Biden's Defense
Readers and a political scientist take exception to the outrage.Over the weekend, my colleague Ian Prasad Philbrick and I went looking for articles arguing both sides of the Joe Biden question. We found numerous pieces upbraiding Biden for touching people while interacting with them, and several of them argued that his likely presidential campaign should suffer for it.
Finding articles making the opposite case wasnt so easy. (The closest we came was a Medium essay by Stephanie Carter, whose husband served in the Obama administration with Biden.) But if the media consensus this weekend was a condemnation of Biden, the reaction on Monday both in the media and among readers was different. It was substantially more mixed and less negative.
You can see some of that view in the letters that The Times received from readers. Men were acculturated to behave in ways that ignored the sensibilities of women, and that is no longer acceptable, Laura Petiford wrote. I struggle to understand how it is helpful to render men like Mr. Biden unfit because of behaviors that were so deeply woven into the social fabric of this country that we are only now beginning to address them contextually.

The coordinated attack against Biden is going to backfire.
3-15 "negotiations for their first collective bargaining agreement will begin as soon as possible."
Has anyone seen when the negotiations are going to start?
The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 400 website mentions negotiations are about to start between themselves, Safeway and Giant Food. I don't see anything about negotiations with Daddy2020.

Elizabeth Warren hopes policy will set her apart in 2020
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) kicked off the 2020 election in December when she became the first person to announce her intention to run for president. But once one of the rising stars of the Democratic party, the senior senator from Massachusetts and former face of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has taken a back seat to newer, fresher candidates.
The Harvard law professor became a contentious figure after it was revealed that she claimed Native American heritage during the college admissions process and throughout her legal career; a subsequent DNA test was rebuked by the Cherokee Nation. Warrens reputation as a policy wonk and association with establishment Democrats has done no favors for her likability.
Some critics still consider Warren too liberal and standoffish for the national stage. Others doubt her ability to resonate with Black voters or white, working-class voters.
But Warrens campaign has pushed several bold and ambitious policy ideas to elevate her above other 2020 candidates, such as eliminating the tech giants monopoly and abolishing the Electoral College. In fact, Warren might be the candidate who is running the most on substance over style. After all, the unapologetically anti-Wall Street, pro-transparency message of Warrens early years made her popular with voters.

Flores talking about her time on the Sanders campaign.
I feel like I should be pleased that this is happening to Arturo after making mine and others lives hell, leaving me with all of his disasters to clean up, acting dismissive of me and other women in demeaning and sexist ways, treating us as if we were there to serve him, among all his other personal and professional misbehaviors, but this doesnt make me happy at all. It is know that this atmosphere was prevalent on the Sanders campaign. Sanders last campaign manager admits to the atmosphere and Sanders himself deemed it to be worth an hour of his very valuable personal time to listen to women from his campaign. I'm sure it's why his campaign staff unionized this time around.
It really bothers me what Flores is doing. She is not saying Sanders shouldn't run even though the atmosphere created by him was much more egregious than the patriarchal aspects of Biden's personality.
What Flores is doing is politically motivated. There is no longer any question about that. It appears to me she thinks she is helping Sanders and in doing so thinks it is going to help herself. These are the types of things people don't forget.
What is really sad to me is that the issue she attempted to raise has temporarily been politicized because of her own actions. People have been forced to pick sides when talking about, or outright dismiss, one of the top forms of sexism that women encounter. Numerous encounters of Biden in the past qualify. Inherent patriarchal tendencies are deeply rooted in this country, specially in Bidens age group. Biden does not embrace the patriarchy, that can be seen from many of his past actions. He does posses some inherent patriarchal habits that are learned. Behaviors that can change. But this cannot even be openly discussed right now because of the blatantly political attack on Biden by Flores.
Biden is a good man with some inherent flaws. It's really not the biggest of deals and we are working in society to remove patriarchal mannerisms. What has been discussed about the Sanders campaign is much much worse. They aren't even on the same level. I think Flores needs to pick up another cause. Helping to represent Bernie 2020 staff in union negotiations to try to limit the harassment, demeaning behavior, and degradation that was common in Sanders last campaign.

Elizabeth Warren's plan to make farming great again, explained
A crackdown on agribusiness conglomerates, and more.Continuing her streak as the 2020 presidential cycles most policy-rich candidate, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) rolled out a package of proposals on Wednesday designed to boost the fortunes of Americas small farmers, instead of the agribusiness giants who increasingly control the sector.
With Iowa playing a perennially influential role in the US presidential nominating process, Midwestern farmers always get some love from candidates. But Donald Trumps unusually strong electoral performance in the rural north and the collapse of the once-large bloc of Democratic Party senators from the Great Plains states has transformed the political geography of the United States to the GOPs advantage.
This transformation has been driven by identity issues: Democrats are increasingly branded not just as the party of racial minorities, but more broadly as the party of people who enjoy the cosmopolitan lifestyles available in big metro areas and college towns, with the GOP representing the home-and-hearth values of smaller communities.
Warrens pitch aims to inject a rural-specific economic clash into the political discourse that would fit neatly with her larger theme of attacking concentrated economic power and pit at least some farmers bottom-line economic interests against those of big corporate players in the farm sector.

House Democrats' health-care bill hurts Trump and Bernie
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) held a news conference Tuesday with fellow Democrats on Tuesday to roll out their new health-care proposal in the wake of the administrations announcement that it supported complete invalidation of the Affordable Care Act in a 5th Circuit case. The court move came as an unexpected political gift to Democrats.
Pelosi reminded the media:
Last night, in federal court, the Justice Department of the Trump Administration youd think they have more to do decided to not only try to destroy protections for preexisting conditions, but to tear down every last benefit and protection the ACA affords.
The GOP will never stop trying to destroy the affordable health care of Americas families. I always think of Mr. Clyburn and John Lewis when they quote Martin Luther King, when he talks about, of all the injustices, the most inhumane is the inequality of health care.
Washington Post
Considering the office BS is running for, he needs to be asked if he would veto progressive legislation. Would he veto a pathway to citizenship if he didn't like the Visa language in the legislation? Would he veto positive and progressive healthcare legislation if it isn't Medicare for All? Fair question considering he is lining up with Republicans in opposition to Pelosi and other Democrats when it comes to this healthcare push to protect and strengthen the ACA.

Prize-winning show dog vanishes at airport
It's been three days since a prize-winning show dog disappeared at one of the world's busiest airports after being checked in for a flight.
Gale, a pure-bred American Staffordshire Terrier whose owners live in Amsterdam, was being shown in the United States by her handlers and had one final event in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday before flying home.
The handlers brought Gale and another dog to HartsfieldJackson Atlanta International Airport, where they checked in for their KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight and went through security. Not long after the handlers boarded the Amsterdam-bound plane in Atlanta on Saturday afternoon, they were informed that Gale's kennel was found empty when crews went to load her crate onto the aircraft. The handlers immediately called her owners.
"Me and my wife completely panicked," Gale's owner, Floris Van Essen, told ABC News in a telephone interview from the Netherlands capital on Monday. "We were out of our minds. You can imagine it's horrific to hear that a dog is gone and nobody knows where she is."
