We need a commander-in-chief, not a Twitterer-in-chief … I mean, we’re liable to wake up one morning, and Donald, if he were president, would have nuked Denmark.

Trump: Jews Voting for Democrats Show Lack of Knowledge or Great Disloyalty

Source: The Jerusalem Post

US President, Donald Trump, said Tuesday that Jews who vote for Democrats "shows either total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty."

Asked by reporters about the Ilhan Omar-Rashid Tlaib saga, the President slammed the two for suggesting to cut aid for Israel. "I would not cut off to Israel, and I can't even believe we are having this conversation," he said. "five years ago, the concept of even talking about cutting off aid to Israel because of two people who hate Israel and hate Jewish people - I can't believe we are having this conversation. Where has the Democratic party gone?"

"Where have they gone where they are defending these two people over the state of Israel?" the President continued. "I think any Jewish people that vote for a democrat -- I think it shows either total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty."

He spoke about the joint press conference of the two Congresswomen and added: "You should see the horrible things that Tlaib said on Israel over the last couple of years. Omar is a disaster for Jewish people. I can't imagine if she has Jewish people in her district that they could possibly vote for her."

In response; "Jewish support for the Republican Party has been halved in the past four years."- Halie Soifer, Executive Director of Jewish Democratic Council of America

"This is yet another example of Donald Trump continuing to weaponize and politicize anti-Semitism. At a time when anti-Semitic incidents have increased -- due to the president's emboldening of white nationalism -- Trump is repeating an anti-Semitic trope. If this is about Israel, then Trump is repeating a dual loyalty claim, which is a form of anti-Semitism. If this is about Jews being "loyal" to him, then Trump needs a reality check. We live in a democracy, and Jewish support for the Republican Party has been halved in the past four years."

Ryan: They're trying to shut out the more moderate voices of the party

The Vindicator, August 18, 2019

Ryan, who won’t qualify for next presidential debate, criticizes the process

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, who won’t qualify for next month’s Democratic presidential debate, sharply criticized the selection process.

“It’s horse (expletive),” he said. “It’s not a fair process. We’re weeding people out in August. Bill Clinton didn’t get into the [1992] campaign until October 1991. They’re trying to shut out the more moderate voices of the party. To start eliminating people now isn’t fair.”

Ryan reported he had about 13,000 donors as of June 30. That’s since grown, he said without giving specifics. But it’s not close to the 130,000 needed. Also, he hasn’t polled at 2 percent in any qualifying poll since June 28.

(snip) “Other candidates are getting out and stumbling while we’ve been getting a ton of media,” Ryan said. “We’re going to keep going. We’re continuing to build this out. I’m running a start-up operation. I’m in it to win it ... I’m the kind of candidate who can catch fire and all of a sudden you get name ID"

Ryan warned Democrats not to select a left-wing nominee – such as U.S. Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont or Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts – as the nominee.

“We’ll be so far left that we’ll be in trouble getting to the center in the general” election, he said. Nobody’s talking about the economic message (but me). I’ve said it since I ran against Nancy Pelosi (for Democratic leader in 2016). The country, I think, is on a sugar high with the economy. It’s being held together with bubble gum and string. We’re seeing that now.”

Big Leap by SpaceX's Starship Prototype Pushed to Next Week

It looks like we'll have to wait a little longer to see Starhopper make its biggest leap yet.

SpaceX had been hoping to launch Starhopper, an early test prototype of the company's Mars-colonizing Starship vehicle, to an altitude of about 650 feet (200 meters) this weekend from its facility in Boca Chica, Texas, near the border city of Brownsville.

SpaceX just needed to secure permission for the flight from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), company founder and CEO Elon Musk said via Twitter earlier this week.

On Thursday (Aug. 15), the billionaire entrepreneur tweeted another update: "Good conversation with head of FAA Space. Need a bit more hazard analysis & should be clear to fly soon."

But "soon" apparently means the middle of next week at the earliest. Officials in Cameron County, where Boca Chica lies, announced Friday (Aug. 16) that Boca Chica Beach and part of State Highway 4 will be closed on Aug. 21 from 2 p.m. to midnight local time to accommodate SpaceX activities.

Implanting Elon Musk's chip in your brain could make you lose your mind

Implanting AI chips in your mind could cause you to lose yourself, says scientist

Last month, Elon Musk’s Neuralink, a neurotechnology company, revealed its plans to develop brain-reading technology over the next few years. One of the goals for Musk’s firm is to eventually implant microchip-devices into the brains of paralyzed people, allowing them to control smartphones and computers.

Although this Black Mirror-esque technology could hold potentially life-changing powers for those living with disabilities, according to Cognitive Psychologist Susan Schneider, it’s not such a great idea, and I can’t help but feel relieved, I’m with Schneider on this.

Musk, who’s also the Chief Executive of both Tesla and SpaceX, aims to make implanting AI in the brain as safe and commonplace as laser eye surgery. But, how would this work? In a video presented unveiled at the California Academy of Science, Musk said the implant would record information emitted by neurons in the brain.

The tiny processors will connect to your brain via tiny threads significantly thinner than a human hair (about 4 to 6 ?m in width). These sensors will fit on the surface of your skull and then relay information to a wearable computer that sits behind your ear, called The Link. With this all in place, your brain can then connect to your iPhone via an app — we are truly living in the future and it’s terrifying.

In an op-ed for the Financial Times, Schneider argues that the project could amount to “suicide for the human mind.” Although Schneider says brain intelligence could be augmented with chips, “there will be a point at which you end your life. I call this horrific ‘brain drain.’”

It was inspiring to see @Hickenlooper’s commitment to bettering our country during his campaign. I’m looking forward to fighting alongside him as we work to elect Democrats up and down the ballot in 2020.

A Weather Station above the Arctic Circle hit 94.6F in July

A Weather Station Above the Arctic Circle hit 94.6 Degrees Fahrenheit

Amid the hottest month in recorded history, some records still stand out as absolutely jaw dropping. That’s definitely true of a measurement made in the Arctic this July.

According to data released in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) monthly climate analysis, a weather station in Sweden north of the Arctic Circle hit a stunning 94.6 Fahrenheit (34.8 degrees Celsius) last month. As an isolated data point, it would be shocking. But coupled with a host of other maladies, from no sea ice within 125 miles of Alaska to the unruly fires ravaging Siberia, it’s an exclamation point on the climate crisis.

The steamy temperature was recorded on July 26 in the small Swedish outpost of Markusvinsa, which sits on the southern edge of the Arctic Circle. Deke Arndt, a NOAA climate scientist, said on a call with reporters that the data was analyzed and quality controlled by the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute and that “they have established that as highest temperature north of the Arctic Circle” for the country. For comparison, the hottest temperature recorded in New York City last month was 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 degrees Celsius).

The heat wave that enveloped the Arctic spread a lot farther than Markusvinsa, though. Alaska recorded its hottest month ever amid extremely weird weather for the state. The heat has driven massive wildfire, and smoke from those fires enveloped Anchorage and Fairbanks, the former of which has had its smokiest summer on record, according to Alaska weather expert Rick Thoman. Salmon dieoffs, the earliest walrus haul out ever recorded, and emaciated animals have also been reported around the state.
