Alexa, How popular is Democratic Underground?

I know DU / BBSs are Old Skool, but WTF?

EDIT: By way of comparison : Daily Kos

EDIT2: The Nation

I wish McConnell didn't look like a Turtle.

Turtle are harmless and kinda cute. McConnell is the nastiest excuse for a slimy viper in living memory.

“2017 was the best year for conservatives in the 30 years that I've been here. The best year on all fronts.”

I don’t know. How about a Whip Snake?

A preying mantis?

An Australian Goanna?

Anything but a Turtle.

Senators target Russia with massive bipartisan bill

Source: CNN

Washington (CNN) A bipartisan group of senators, frustrated by what they see as the Trump administration's failure to adequately punish Russia for its broad spectrum of bad behavior -- are taking matters into their own hands.

They've proposed a massive bill that aims to, among other things, force the administration to assess whether Russia is a state sponsor of terror.

It would also require a two-thirds Senate vote if Trump decides to leave NATO, a report on Russian President Vladimir Putin's net worth and assets, and title insurance companies in the US to report information on who owns entities that buy high-priced homes here -- as well as would hammer Russia with a host of additional sanctions and new ways of cracking down on Russian disinformation and cyber-crimes.

Sen. Bob Menendez, a New Jersey Democrat who's one of the bill's cosponsors, said the legislation is a response to President Donald Trump's "willful paralysis in the face of Kremlin aggression" and seeks to ramp up pressure on Russia through a wide range of punitive measures.

McCain wipes the grin off McConnell's face

July 28, 2017

ELIZABETH WARREN: You remember what was at stake. This was about rolling health care back for millions and millions and millions of people. And we were a 48-52 Senate at that moment. The bill had already passed the House. And we all knew if it got even to 50-50, people were going to lose health care around this country, because the vice president would break the tie and roll back this health care.

I was standing at the desk — I just couldn’t sit down. I was too anxious and watching the votes.

We had all the Democrats — that’s 48. Susan Collins voted no. That gave us 49. Lisa Murkowski voted no. That gave us 50. Those were all the known commitments.

You’re looking around: Is there anybody else who might vote to save health care for all of these families? Where’s John McCain? He’s not there.

And (then) he rounds the corner, and I remember standing there watching, and he comes around that corner. No fuss, no muss, waiting for his name again.

Who knew? Well, every Republican was stunned but it seems like someone might have tipped off Bernie.

tЯump's approval soars to 52% (Rasmussen)

Other polls 40-42% (538)

Rasmussen lies like the Repubicans they are.

MAGATS are proud of Donald Trump. Very Proud Indeed.

I’ve put this up a few times and thought it was worth posting again.

MAGATS are not sad, affronted or lacking in self respect, they are proud. Very proud.

They proud that facts and experts don’t matter to them anymore. They are proud of their leader who tells it like it is, no matter what anyone else says. Тhey are proud of the lies they hold self evident come hell or high water. They are proud to be white, proud of the privilage, and proud to defend it any place, any time. They want their country back, a country that never existed.

MAGATS are totalitarians, nothing more, nothing less. They don’t give a shit if they get want.

The Origins of Totalitarianism
By Hannah Arendt

The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced Communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction and the distinction between true and false no longer exist.

One could make people believe the most fantastic statements one day, and trust that if the next day they were given irrefutable proof of the falsehood, they would admire the leaders for their clever tactics.

Mass propaganda discovered that its audience was ready at all times to believe the worst, no matter how absurd, and did not particularly object to being deceived because it held every statement to be a lie anyhow.

Trump is so clever he drives liberals nuts. They lie, we lie, who cares? He says what we want to hear: Our way or the highway. We are very very proud of him.

Angela Merkel has decided to close Germany's coal power plants. Аll of them.

(Reuters) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Tuesday that her country would withdraw from coal-fired power production by 2038, showing her support for the deadline recommended by a government-appointed commission.

The so-called coal commission said last month that Germany should shut down all of its coal-fired power plants by 2038 at the latest and proposed at least 40 billion euros ($45.7 billion) in aid to coal-mining states affected by the phase-out.

Merkel’s decision has stirred up considerable controversy in Germany. Critics contend that the Coal Power Plants could be closed a decade earlier if the Government was really serious. All of Germany’s nuclear power plants will be shuttered by 2022.

In 1990 there were 115,000 employees in the brown coal sector of reunited Germany. Now there are only 20,000. And there are 330,000 workers in renewables.

I am so SICK of Dems saying Trump is a symptom, not a cause.

Warren said it. Obama said it. They are wrong

Trump is an opportunist secondary infection that overwhelmed the American Body Politic. He is the pneumonia, the toxoplasmosis, the hepatitis, TB,
that has put the Republic at grave risk.

The GOP IS the vector that has entrenched the hatred and division, the bigotry, the racism, the carnivorous inequality that liberal Americas have struggled to contain ever since Nixon unleashed the Southern Strategy.

The GOP gave up being the Party of Lincoln years ago. When Trump came along - the party’s immune system, it’s principles, it’s ideology, it’s patriotism were vestigial. Trump sneezed, they caved.

Division and hatread have been with us forever, but don’t try to tell me that betraying our allies and selling out the Republic to Russia is merely a symptom of a wider malaise.

Trump is one of a kind. He is a disease.

Giant Methane Storms On Uranus

Giant Methane Storms On Uranus

Most of the times we have looked at Uranus, it has seemed to be a relatively calm place. Well, yes its atmosphere is the coldest place in the solar system. But, when we picture the seventh planet in our solar system invariably the image of a calming blue hazy disc that the spacecraft Voyager 2 took in 1986 comes to mind.

However, all we have previously known about the atmosphere of Uranus has been ’thrown to the wind’ with observations made last year.

In August 2014 a group led by Imke de Pater pointed the Keck telescope at Uranus and were a little bit surprised to see storms raging. It wasn’t as though clouds haven’t been seen before, but the clouds they spotted last year were very much brighter than any seen before.

The fact that the storms are bright in the methane spectrum isn’t a surprise – Uranus, and its neighbour Neptune, are pretty much just big balls of methane, water and ammonia (but it does make for a snigger-worthy headline).

Watson's Satement corroborated by Duke classmate.

Watson said she told her friends immediately after Fairfax assaulted her. Kaneedreck Adams, who attended Duke at that time, has corroborated her statement.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Kaneedreck Adams, an attorney who attended Duke with Watson, corroborated the allegation

Adams was at the time living in an on-campus apartment across from Watson, said Watson came to her on-campus apartment crying in the spring of 2000.

“She was upset,” Adams said. “She told me she had been raped and she named Justin.”

“She said she couldn’t speak, but she was trying to get up and he kept pushing her down,” Adams added. “She said he knew that she didn’t like what was happening, but he kept pushing her down.”
