Gary Chambers for President 2032

(After Biden's one term and his VP's two terms are up ...)

Watch this man eviscerate a school board member for online shopping during a discussion about racist Confederate monuments, gracefully tell off another board member and then eloquently explain why the monuments need to be taken down.

"Privilege is having history rewritten so that you don't have to acknowledge uncomfortable facts"

It's no accident that:

You learned about Helen Keller instead of W.E.B. DuBois

You learned about the Watts and L.A. Riots, but not Tulsa or Wilmington.

You learned that George Washington’s dentures were made from wood, rather than the teeth from slaves.

You learned about black ghettos, but not about Black Wall Street.

You learned about the New Deal, but not “red lining.”

You learned about Tommie Smith’s fist in the air at the 1968 Olympics, but not that he was sent home the next day and stripped of his medals.

You learned about “black crime,” but white criminals were never lumped together and discussed in terms of their race.

You learned about “states rights” as the cause of the Civil War, but not that slavery was mentioned 80 times in the articles of secession.

Privilege is having history rewritten so that you don’t have to acknowledge uncomfortable facts.

Racism is perpetuated by people who refuse to learn or acknowledge this reality.

You have a choice.

"Don't worry about me voting. Worry about my aunties and all her church sisters"

https://twitter.com/SashaBeauloux/status/1274112377202622464

It's not that black people don't want or aren't motivated to vote. But voting is much harder for many of us than it is for many, if not most white folk, no matter how committed we are.

We're going to need to give aunties and grannies and church sisters plenty of reason to stand in line for hours.

They will surely stand in line as long as it takes if it means voting for a black woman for vice president.

And please don't say "if beating Trump isn't enough to motivate them to vote, then I don't know what ..." I know too many white folk who are threatening not to vote for the dumbest reasons - and none of them include being worn down by racist voter suppression to have the energy to stand in a line all-day and into the night just to vote ...

How are mask requirements any different than no-smoking prohibitions?

Anybody?

I mean, if a theater can prohibit people from smoking in order to protect the health of other patrons, why shouldn't/can't they require people to wear masks for the same reason?

Cincinnati Enquirer Op-Ed: Can you support Trump and not be a bigot?

Some of my Republican friends are quick to tell me how much they’re repulsed by Donald Trump, yet they continue to support him anyway because they like some of his policies. When I note that they’re supporting the darling of white supremacy, they insist this doesn’t mean they condone racism or that they themselves are racist – and they take great offense that I or anyone else would think otherwise because, after all, "You don’t know what’s in my heart."
...
You’re right. I may not know what’s in your heart. But I can see what you do, and I can see whom you’re doing it with. And I can see that when you support the candidate of white supremacy, you are aligning yourself with white supremacists, adding weight and power to their racism, even if you are not personally racist yourself.

When you vote, whether in person or by mail, no one will sort out the "racist Trump" votes from the "not racist Trump" votes. If you vote for Trump, your vote will go into the same pile with those cast by voters who support Trump because of, not in spite of, his racism, xenophobia and malevolence. And when the voting’s done and the counting starts, your vote will be counted right along with theirs, and the tabulators couldn’t care less what’s in your heart. All they’ll see is that your ballot for Trump looks exactly like all the other ballots for Trump, and they’ll simply mark you down as one more vote for the white supremacists’ candidate.
...
So, my friend, if you choose to vote for Trump in November, please don’t be offended if you’re mistaken for a racist, even if you’re not. When you align yourself with racists, it’s hard to tell you apart from them, regardless what may be in your heart, because to those of us over here on the right side of history, you all look alike.

Biden doesn't need to choose a VP who primarily appeals to the same voters he does

I'm puzzled and a little frustrated by those who keep insisting that picking a woman of color in general or Kamala Harris in particular is a bad idea because she won't appeal to voters in the Midwest.

First of all, that's just not true - and would only apply if the only people in the Midwest were white working class voters. But that's not the case. Those states are full of people to whom Harris would appeal, many of whom sat out the last election and aren't too terribly excited about Biden, but would crawl over broken glass to vote for a ticket with her on it. And those are likely the voters that will make the difference in this election.

So, there's that.

Moreover, the electorate is not limited to the Midwest. The same applies across the country. It would be foolish for Biden to select a candidate who appeals only to the same voters who love him. She's already got them - or he will be able to pull them in during the campaign. He needs someone who will capture the hearts and attention of other people and who will inspire them to come out and vote for the ticket. Kamala Harris and every other black female being talked about would do just that.

On President Kennedy's last campaign trip, in Dallas, an aide was said to have told Jackie, "Be sure to wave only to the people on the left side of the car. If you and the President both wave to the same person, that's a waste."

Biden needs a running mate who will wave to the people he can't wave at so they can reach a much larger audience of voters.

I think Klobuchar's announcement wasn't a concession - it was part of a strategic rollout

Amy didn't climb out on a limb that can be easily sawed off under her if Biden doesn't pick a woman if color, thereby making her look like she has no influence. I think her comments were part of a carefully planned rollout by the Biden campaign of an announcement of Harris or another black woman as his running mate.

She's not actually telling Biden what he should do. She's helping to lay the groundwork, frame the narrative, and inoculating him from criticism from white Democrats who might go after him for "playing identity politics" if he picks someone of color.

She's a team player.

Klobuchar asked Biden to take her out of VP pool: "It's time to put a woman of color on the ticket."

She just said on Lawrence O'Donnell a moment ago she called Biden last night and said she no longer wants to be considered.
