Kasparov was on to Drumpf from Day One

Trump, Putin, and Real Fascism

Garry Kasparov

When Donald Trump made his odious statements about banning Muslims from the United States my first thought was to wonder who would be first to turn them into a fundraising commercial, Hillary Clinton or ISIS. I didn’t have to pause to be surprised by Trump’s latest exercise in demagoguery because it was predictable. The media’s reaction showed why, as they rewarded Trump with endless hours of coverage of the professional celebrity’s latest bigotry, hours that weren’t going to his rivals Marco Rubio, Ben Carson, or even “Trump-lite” Ted Cruz.

Name-calling and outrage are important parts of the political horse-race coverage, so “is Donald Trump a fascist?” actually became something you saw on cable news screens for a few days. Like many I’ve tried to ignore the Trump show as much as possible (not very possible!) but this shift demanded my interest. I’ve watched in horror in recent years as Vladimir Putin has turned Russia in a genuinely fascist direction, well beyond the established petro-kleptocracy and posturing. And as a long-time enthusiast of George Orwell’s works, I do not take the word “fascist” casually, and nor should anyone else. (I recently revisited my favorite Orwell book, Homage to Catalonia, after picking it as one of the books that most influenced me for a National Review collection. It’s still an essential book.)

In 140 characters on Twitter, my quick response when someone put the question to me was that if Trump isn’t a fascist, he’s doing a very good job of sounding like one. I also shared, as I often do, the concise definition of fascism from Robert Paxton’s excellent 2004 book on the subject, The Anatomy of Fascism, since many people take fascism to mean “Nazi” or simply, “evil.”

“Fascism may be defined as a form of political behavior marked by obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation, or victimhood and by compensatory cults of unity, energy, and purity, in which a mass-based party of committed nationalist militants, working in uneasy but effective collaboration with traditional elites, abandons democratic liberties and pursues with redemptive violence and without ethical or legal restraints goals of internal cleansing and external expansion.”

Since I have more space here, I’ll add a few relevant examples of what Paxton calls the “mobilizing passions” of fascism:

• The belief that one’s group is a victim, a sentiment that justifies any action, without legal or moral limits, against its enemies, both internal and external;
• Dread of the group’s decline under the corrosive effects of individualistic liberalism, class conflict, and alien influences;
• The need for closer integration of a purer community, by consent if possible, or by exclusionary violence if necessary;
• The superiority of the leader’s instincts over abstract and universal reason.

Michigan has 3.26 million absentee ballots to count.

Huge absentee vote count underway in Michigan as Biden, Trump grab other states

Todd Spangler
Detroit Free Press, Nov. 3, 2020

But in one of the most widely anticipated elections in U.S. history, eyes were squarely on a string of key battleground states, including Michigan, where, as of 12:50 a.m., Trump led 54%-44% with about 59% the expected vote total counted and thousands of votes from Detroit yet to be tallied. And with Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson predicting turnout would likely top 5.26 million — the most in state history — it means the still-untallied votes could result in a huge swing, especially with the majority of the 3.26 million absentee votes cast in the state expected to be more favorable to Biden.

But Biden was projected to win Minnesota, a state Trump hoped to turn, and with 75% of the vote in, Biden was ahead 53%-46% in Arizona, a state Trump won four years ago. And while Trump held leads in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, they were in the same place as Michigan with large numbers of absentee ballots, expected to be more generally favorable to Biden, yet to be counted.

Trump Abandoned America (a message to undecided lurkers)

Instead of using his powers as President to protect the People and fight the coronavirus, Trump did nothing.

May the charges he soon face include Gross Criminal Dereliction of Duty.

“You just breathe the air and that’s how it’s passed.” — Feb. 7, 2020

Then there’s the question of what he and his man crush have talked about in secrecy...

Trump is evil.

...But Mr. Trump defended the Texas drivers in a post on Twitter on Sunday night, saying, “In my opinion, these patriots did nothing wrong. Instead, the FBI & Justice should be investigating the terrorists, anarchists, and agitators of ANTIFA, who run around burning down our Democrat run cities and hurting our people!”

What kind of person endorses political murder?

Are you a victim of The Purge?

Greg Palast reports 1.8 million voters were turned away from the polls in 2016 when Donald Trump won the presidency thanks to the 77,744 votes he claimed in the battleground states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

The GOP is doing the same treason this year. Check to see your status at SaveMyVote2020.org.

The team behind the short 14-minute film The Purged, which EW exclusively premiered, doesn’t want that to happen to (Martin Luther King, Jr.’s 94-year young cousin Christine) Jordan or anyone else in 2020, in what might be the most pivotal election in American history.

It was Don Jr who told Texas whackos to "have some fun" with Kamala

US election: Don Jr told Trump supporters to ‘have some fun’ before Biden vehicles ‘rammed by armed group’

Trump’s eldest son called on supporters ‘get out there, have some fun’

by Gino Spocchia
The Independent, Oct. 31, 2020

A Biden campaign event was cancelled in Texas on Friday after reportedly coming under threat from armed Trump supporters, days after the president’s eldest son called on his father’s supporters to “get out there, have some fun”.

Don Jr posted a video earlier this week ahead of Democratic VP candidate, Kamala Harris, holding an event in Texas and urged his father’s supporters to show up.

He said: “It’d be great if you guys would all get together, head down to McAllen and give Kamala Harris a nice Trump Train welcome."

“Get out there, have some fun, enjoy it,” Mr Trump continued.

“Don’t forget to vote and bring all of your friends. Let’s show them how strong Texas still is as Trump country. Get out there, guys.”
