Pelosi: Impeachment is off the table (2005)

That was Speaker Pelosi in 2005 after British newspapers broke the story on the Downing Street Memos that showed a conspiracy between PM Tony Blair and President George W. Bush to invade Iraq under false pretenses.

Hundreds of thousands died. Millions became displaced as war refugees. If a war based on lies was not enough reason to impeach Bush, I hold little hope that Trump will be impeached on lesser grounds.

Let’s Go to the Memo
What’s really in the Downing Street memos?

JUNE 15, 2005 5:52 PM

Is there anything important in the Downing Street memo? This is the now-notorious secret transcript of a British ministerial meeting on July 23, 2002—obtained and published by the Sunday Times of London just this past May Day—which seems to suggest that, nine months before the war in Iraq got started, the Bush administration a) knew Saddam Hussein didn’t pose a threat; b) decided to overthrow him by force anyway; and c) was “fixing” intelligence to sell the impending invasion to a duped American public.

Deceased G.O.P. Strategist's Hard Drives Reveal New Details on the Census Citizenship Question

Excerpt: Files on those drives showed that he wrote a study in 2015 concluding that adding a citizenship question to the census would allow Republicans to draft even more extreme gerrymandered maps to stymie Democrats. And months after urging President Trump’s transition team to tack the question onto the census, he wrote the key portion of a draft Justice Department letter claiming the question was needed to enforce the 1965 Voting Rights Act — the rationale the administration later used to justify its decision.

GOP will stop at nothing to subvert the popular will at the polls.

The endgame pieces to take down Trump are in the Mueller report

Excerpt: What to do if you are Pelosi? It’s a huge decision. One that really does require courage.

In “Avengers: Endgame,’’ killing Thanos didn’t solve everything. He had already done too much to damage the universe. Impeaching Trump won’t solve all the country’s problems either. But increasingly, it looks like the only way to win back something else: our dignity as a country, and our embrace of some principle bigger than self-preservation.

Will Merkel Be Followed by Darkness?

Angela Merkel is the Leader of the Free World. In this Der Spiegel article she warns about the rise of dark forces that haunted Europe in 1930s.

Excerpt: Merkel also knows that if he is re-elected, the door will be open for Trump to smash the pillars of world order. The president has made clear more than once that he considers NATO to be little more than an expense for the U.S. He has also described the EU as an "enemy," and views it as a threat to American prosperity. Many in Germany interpreted such statements as being the over-the-top remarks of a former TV entertainer, but Merkel didn't. She believed he would implement his agenda, point-by-point.

UFOs exist and everyone needs to adjust to that fact

Excerpt: One of the gutsiest working paper presentations I have witnessed was Alexander Wendt and Raymond Duvall presenting a draft version of “Sovereignty and the UFO.” In that paper, eventually published in the journal Political Theory, Wendt and Duvall argued that state sovereignty as we understand it is anthropocentric, or “constituted and organized by reference to human beings alone.” They argued that the real reason UFOs have been dismissed is because of the existential challenge that they pose for a worldview in which human beings are the most technologically advanced life-forms.

Billions spent on defense by all nations on Earth. Imagine those governments having to admit that there are all these flying objects that they can’t stop.

Sturgeon: strong case for independence vote after EU elections

Excerpt: “Scotland said no to Brexit in 2016. This result makes clear: we meant it,” Sturgeon said, before confirming to journalists in Dublin that the Scottish government would publish draft legislation on a second independence referendum later this week.
