Sen. Ron Johnson angry at Romney, apparently

LOL THIS is what this trial is all about! Dividing Republicans! The final vote at the end is only one part of this.

Wow, Ron Johnson picked a fight with Mitt Romney on the Senate floor just now after this witness vote, per pooler @jason_donner

“Ron Johnson turned to Mitt Romney and was upset with him, even pointing at him once. Johnson was visibly upset....”

Dear media: The Senate voted on Raskin's motion. Trump's lawyer didn't make a motion.

Raskin made a motion to call Rep. Herrera Beutler as a witness, and reserved the right to call more.

Trump's lawyer made no motion.

That is what the Senate voted on.

EDIT: I believe Trump's lawyer can now make a motion. I assume the GOP is compiling a list of witnesses.

The Senate is scheduled to go into recess this week - call witnesses!

Just an FYI. For those saying we need to end impeachment now so the Senate can get on to passing the COVID relief bill.

- The COVID relief bill is not ready for a vote.

- The Senate is scheduled to go into recess for a week:

- Witnesses were called in the Clinton impeachment

- Democrats tried to call witnesses in Trump's first impeachment, but were voted down

- The rules allow for the calling of witnesses today

- Witnesses would be deposed on recorded video, which could then be played to the Senate.

EDIT: LOL. Even Romney is OK with calling witnesses

Breaking: Whitehouse calls for trial to be suspended, wants to depose McCarthy and Tuberville.

Do it! Do it! Do it!

https://twitter.com/kylegriffin1/status/1360453875824664578

One way to clear it up? Suspend trial to depose McCarthy and Tuberville under oath and get facts. Ask Secret Service to produce for review comms back to White House re VP Pence safety during siege. What did Trump know, and when did he know it?

I agree with David Waldman: Senator Lee was out of order

Tomorrow’s impeachment session should begin with a warning to Senator Lee that he was in violation of the admonition to keep silence under Rule II, and that Senators will not be recognized for the purposes of making objections to evidence or testimony.

https://twitter.com/KagroX/status/1359672791944069122

Also:

Lee claimed that he was making his objection pursuant to Rule XVI. Rule XVI makes no such allowance for objections from Senators sitting as jurors.

I was being kind. It SHOULD start with his imprisonment for violation of the very clear rule.

NYT: Georgia Prosecutors Open Criminal Investigation of Trump Call

Let's get the investigations going. Note that this is a new story from today and is separate from Raffensperger's administrative request that he made on Monday.

Georgia Prosecutors Open Criminal Investigation of Trump Call

Fulton County prosecutors have initiated a criminal investigation into former President Donald J. Trump’s January phone call to the Georgia secretary of state asking him to “find” votes.

Prosecutors in Fulton County have initiated a criminal investigation into former President Donald J. Trump’s attempts to overturn Georgia’s election results, including a phone call he made to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in which Mr. Trump pressured him to “find” enough votes to help him reverse his loss.

On Wednesday, Fani Willis, the recently elected Democratic prosecutor in Fulton County, sent a letter to numerous officials in state government, including Mr. Raffensperger, requesting that they preserve documents related to Mr. Trump’s call, according to a state official with knowledge of the letter. The letter explicitly stated that the request was part of a criminal investigation, said the official, who insisted on anonymity to discuss internal matters.

Raskin sent letter to Trump asking for testimony under oath!

Wow

Breaking: Today, Lead Impeachment Manager Jamie Raskin sent a letter to former President Donald Trump requesting that he provide testimony under oath, either before or during the Senate impeachment trial, about his conduct on January 6.

Further:

Raskin to Trump: "Two days ago, you filed an Answer in which you denied many factual allegations set forth in the article of impeachment ... In light of your disputing these factual allegations, I write to invite you to provide testimony under oath."

EDIT: Thanks to a poster below, here is a link to the letter:

Did you catch this comment from Speaker Pelosi? :)

From today's press conference. She was commenting on the House Managers for impeachment:

Why don't we just wait and let them make their case? They have been very, shall we say, silent, hard working, brilliant, in terms of what we saw in the brief. Not only wise, but, you might appreciate, well written. And no spelling mistakes of the United States.
