Berlin — Poland's government adopted a resolution on Thursday that would enable Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to attend events in the country later this month to mark 80 years since the liberation of the Auschwitz Nazi death camp without facing the risk of arrest under an International Criminal Court warrant. It was presented as a largely symbolic policy, as Netanyahu is not expected to attend the event.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed the move by his government, which doesn't refer directly to Netanyahu or the ICC arrest warrant against him, but rather issues a blanket guarantee of security to all senior Israeli officials to attend the Auschwitz memorial service.

Tusk told reporters Thursday that, per information from the Israeli embassy in Warsaw, Israel plans to send its education minister to represent the nation at the 80th commemoration of the Auschwitz liberation, so the resolution could be considered a "political demonstration."

"I confirm, whether it is the prime minister, the president or the minister — as it is currently declared — of education of Israel, whoever will come to Oswiecim for the celebrations in Auschwitz will be assured of safety and will not be detained," Tusk said.

Lebanon’s parliament has elected the US-backed army chief to be the country’s new president, ending a years-long political stalemate and presidential vacuum.

Army chief Joseph Aoun was voted president after two rounds of voting. This came after a robust efforts by Saudi Arabia and the United States to rally support for Aoun, who is close to Washington and Riyadh.

After he was declared president, Aoun effectively stepped down as army chief. He arrived in parliament to be sworn in dressed in civilian clothing.

In his acceptance speech, Aoun hailed the dawn of a “new era” in Lebanon, vowing to disentangle the country from its myriad economic and political crises. He also made a rare promise to “monopolize weapons” under the mandate of the state, a clear allusion to the arsenal of the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah.

The IDF denies reports by Palestinian media claiming that the Israeli military struck the Indonesian Hospital and ordered the evacuation of the medical center in the northern Gaza Strip.

“Contrary to reports, the IDF did not strike the Indonesian Hospital in Jabalia over the past day and did not damage any essential equipment,” the IDF’s international media spokesman, Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani says on X.

“Following reports regarding the evacuation of the hospital, messages were sent to reiterate to officials in the health authorities that there is no need to evacuate the hospital,” he continues.

“The IDF emphasizes that it is not operating to evacuate the hospital. The IDF remains in ongoing coordination with hospital officials in order to enable and facilitate the supply of humanitarian assistance to the hospital,” Shoshani adds.

Israel on Wednesday took responsibility for a commando raid against an Iranian missile manufacturing site deep in Syria in September, an operation already widely attributed to the Israel Defense Forces.

The revelation of the raid, dubbed internally by the military “Operation Deep Layer,” came weeks after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria, which was closely aligned with Iran. Assad had allowed Iran to use Syria to manufacture and deliver weapons to the Hezbollah terror group in Lebanon.

Members of the Israeli Air Force’s elite Shaldag unit raided the Scientific Studies and Research Center, known as CERS or SSRC, in the Masyaf area on September 8, to demolish an underground facility used by Iranian forces to manufacture precision missiles for Hezbollah.

The site lies more than 200 kilometers (124 miles) north of Israel, though only about 45 kilometers (28 miles) from Syria’s western coastline.

Alec Baldwin's manslaughter case is finally over.

On Monday, special prosecutor Kari Morrissey announced she has withdrawn her appeal of a judge's order dismissing the case.

The decision came after the state attorney general's office said that it "did not intend to exhaustively pursue the appeal on behalf of the prosecution," the prosecutor said.

Baldwin was accused of involuntary manslaughter in the October 2021 death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. At a trial last July, the prosecution intended to show that Baldwin was reckless and criminally negligent when he fired a Colt .45 while preparing for a scene in the movie "Rust."

Palestinian Islamic Jihad chief Ziyad al-Nakhalah fled Syria a few weeks ago, Israel's public broadcaster KAN reported on Sunday.

Nakhalah reportedly escaped to Tehran, fearing Israeli elimination.

Nakhalah's deputy, Akram al-Ajouri, was also reported to have left Syria, retreating with the terror group's top military brass to Iraq.
