The Lincoln Project evolved.

When the Lincoln Project was founded in 2019, they were a modest SuperPac, bent on defeating Trump, and a few Trump enablers in the Senate.

Then came 2020 - life and death, democracy or dictatorship. And they told us which side they were on, and why they had chosen the name the Lincoln Project.

For those who will never forgive them for being ex-Republican, it's worth remembering that when they were kids, the Democratic Party in the south was the party of Jim Crow. For the likes of Stuart Stevens and Rick Wilson, that was not an option. After Goldwater, it took nearly 60 years for the 'Party of Lincoln' to be dead, buried, dug up and cremated. But here we are.

I was reading a WaPo piece about the insurrection (link below) when I got to this sentence -

Investigators caution there is an important legal distinction between gathering like-minded people for a political rally — which is protected by the First Amendment — and organizing an armed assault on the seat of American government.
