Texas Trump supporters say they're ready to take up arms the minute the president gives the order

https://www.rawstory.com/2020/11/texas-trump-supporters-say-theyre-ready-to-take-up-arms-the-minute-the-president-gives-the-order/

Some supporters of President Donald Trump in Texas say they’re willing to take up arms against the American government the minute that Trump gives them the order.

In an interview with Reuters, Texas-based chiropractor Brett Fryar says he has joined a militia group called the South Plains Patriots who are conducting firearms training sessions in case they need to stage an armed revolt against the American government.

St. Jude scientists make breakthrough and discover possible COVID-19 treatment
By Joyce Peterson | November 19, 2020 at 10:22 PM CST - Updated November 20 at 12:35 AM
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Scientists at St. Jude may have figured out how COVID-19 kills, and more importantly, how to stop it.

The virus has already claimed 250,000 lives in the U.S. and more than a million worldwide. This week, St. Jude researchers announced they think they’ve discovered a treatment.

Anyone with allergies, histamine intolerance, rheumatoid arthritis, or a compromised immune system knows what it’s like to have problems with inflammation. The swelling and pain make it difficult to breathe or to move. The same thing happens with COVID-19.

This virus triggers severe inflammation that cripples the lungs and damages other organs. St. Jude researchers say they’ve identified the mechanisms that drive COVID-19 inflammation and the medicines that can treat it.

Many finding out landlords won't take NC HOPE rent money -- and don't have to

https://www.wsoctv.com/news/local/many-finding-out-landlords-wont-take-nc-hope-rent-money-dont-have/SUBMMUMWCBA3JBIFCSAVY37PLA/?outputType=amp

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Many are finding out that, even if they qualify for the NC HOPE program, which will pay up to six months of their rent, their landlords don’t have to take the money. Many landlords are not.

If landlords take the money, they have to follow certain rules, so many don’t feel it’s worth it. Landlords who take HOPE money can’t do certain things, like raise rent for the rest of the renter’s lease, charge the renter new fees or penalties, or evict the renter for not paying rent for the rest of the lease -- or 90 days after the HOPE money ends -- whichever is longer.

Kurt Bradley lives in Huntersville. “I paid half of August, and then I haven’t paid September, October or November,” he told Action 9?s Jason Stoogenke. So he applied for HOPE money and says he qualified. “I was so elated when I got the approval in the mail,” he said.

But his landlord, Southwood Realty Company, wouldn’t take the money. The company told Stoogenke the rules “put a tremendous burden on property management companies.”

Gov. Reeves Calls to Cut Funding for Virtual-Only Schools as Class Outbreaks Soar

https://www.mississippifreepress.org/7085/gov-reeves-calls-to-cut-funding-for-virtual-only-schools-as-class-outbreaks-soar/

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves is calling for the Legislature to cut funding for school districts that are not offering in-class instruction. He made the recommendation in his budget proposal this week, even as the Mississippi State Department of Health reported the worst week for school outbreaks yet.

“School districts willing to provide in-person learning, while working to ensure the safety of students and teachers, are at a financial disadvantage because they are operating under the same or greater budget conditions as those districts only providing online distance learning,” Reeves said in his 88-page budget proposal, released Monday. “For this reason, I propose limiting funding for school districts unwilling to provide the option of essential classroom instruction.”

The day after Reeves released his proposal, the Mississippi State Department of Health reported that 1,023 students and 523 tested positive for COVID-19 over the past week, far exceeding any other.

Schools reported quarantining 16,705 students and educators due to exposures last week, too. MSDH reported 70 outbreaks, also a record number, up from just 24 the week before. Mississippi State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs said that 65 more schools have gone virtual amid widespread outbreaks.

Bill Barr Did WHAT? How Is This Not The Biggest Story In The Country Right Now?

https://abovethelaw.com/2020/11/bill-barr-did-what-how-is-this-not-the-biggest-story-in-the-country-right-now/amp/

The fact that there are state election boards currently contemplating invalidating tens of thousands of votes is the only thing that keeps this off the top of every news outlet right now but the Attorney General potentially using his office to help his private book of business is… not great.

Last night, Reuters broke the story that Attorney General Bill Barr, while working at Kirkland & Ellis, represented Caterpillar in a billion-dollar tax case that miraculously was dropped by the DOJ one week after Barr took over the Justice Department:

"A week after Barr was nominated for the job of attorney general, Justice officials in Washington told the investigative team in the active criminal probe of Caterpillar to take “no further action” in the case, according to an email written by one of the agents and reviewed by Reuters.

Kyle Rittenhouse says he used coronavirus stimulus check to buy AR-15 used in fatal shooting

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1248290

"No, I don't regret it," Rittenhouse told The Washington Post about buying the gun. "I feel like I had to protect myself."

Kyle Rittenhouse cashed a coronavirus stimulus check to purchase the semi-automatic rife that authorities say he used to fatally shoot two men in Kenosha, Wisconsin, he said.

In a telephone interview with The Washington Post, posted Thursday, the jailed Rittenhouse said he acted in self-defense and has no regrets for arming himself that fateful August night as protesters marched in the wake of Jacob Blake's shooting by police.

Snip

"I got my $1,200 from the coronavirus Illinois unemployment because I was on furlough from YMCA, and I got my first unemployment check, so I was like, 'Oh, I'll use this to buy it,'" Rittenhouse said in his first jailhouse interview.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — There are plenty of places to live outside of the world’s biggest and sometimes most overpopulated cities. Luckily, it seems like several towns and smaller metropolises are vying for the attention of those willing to make a move. Now, yet another place joins the ranks of those offering to pay you big bucks to pick up and move there: Northwest Arkansas.

The newly announced Life Works Here initiative is attracting new residents to Northwest Arkansas by offering them $10,000 to move there. They’re also throwing in a street or mountain bike with the deal, allowing new residents to easily explore the area’s 162 miles of paved trails and 322 miles of mountain biking trails. If biking is not your thing, you can opt for an annual membership to one of the local cultural institutions instead, like the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.

Northwest Arkansas is already rated as one of the best places to live in the U.S. thanks to its low cost of living, outdoor activities, world-class arts institutions, and a per-capita income that’s 14% higher than the national average. Now, it's ready to share those perks with more people, especially the nation’s top talent, as well as remote workers.

CDC quietly removes guidance pushing for school reopenings

https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/526370-cdc-quietly-removes-guidance-pushing-for-school-reopenings?amp

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has quietly removed controversial guidance from its website that pushed for schools to reopen in the fall and downplayed the transmission risks of COVID-19 to children and others.

The documents, one of which was reportedly written by political appointees outside of the CDC, stated that children appear to be at lower risk for contracting COVID-19 compared to adults and that children are unlikely to be major spreaders of the virus.

The CDC removed two guidance documents from its website in late October with no public announcement.

When reached for comment, a CDC spokesperson said, "Some of the prior content was outdated and as new scientific information has emerged the site has been updated to reflect current knowledge about COVID-19 and schools."
