Scores of janitors rallied in San Francisco Monday to protest abrupt cutbacks in their hours cleaning Lyft’s corporate headquarters during the coronavirus pandemic.

Citing the importance of their jobs — to clean and disinfect during the current public health crisis — the group blocked off Berry Street in front of Lyft’s headquarters and waved signs reading, “Essential does not equal exploited.”

House Democrats to hold conference call with Pence, Fauci, Birx on coronavirus response

Vice President Mike Pence and White House coronavirus task force members will hold a conference call with House Democrats on Wednesday to provide an update and field questions about the U.S.
response to the pandemic.

The White House team will update the Democrats on multiple facets of the response effort, including the status of supplies and supply chains, a source familiar with the task force told CNBC.

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci and coronavirus response coordinator Deborah Birx are also set to attend the phone conference, which is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.

Shelby County Mayor's Office launches hotline to report violators of Safer At Home order

“In effort to assist the Joint COVID Task Force, we’ve expanded the capacity of the Mayors Action Center to receive calls regarding individuals or businesses violating the County’s health directive or our executive orders, said Mayor Lee Harris. “Shelby County residents now have a centralized number to call if they need to report suspected violations. By reporting violations, residents play a critical role in helping us make sure everyone is doing their part to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. Compliance of the current health directive and executive orders is necessary if we’re going to lower the risk of transmission and reduce the impact of the novel coronavirus on our community.”

The center will be taking calls weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. That number is (901) 222-2300.

Memphis police receive more than 100 calls about large crowds amid COVID-19

Memphis police say they have handled more than 100 calls about people violating the city’s Safer At Home order by gathering in large crowds or doing nonessential activities, but there has only been one arrest.

“Month to date, we have handled 118 calls regarding nonessential activities or crowd violations; 41 of those calls were received (Sunday),” Lt. Karen Rudolph, a MPD spokeswoman, said Monday, April 6. “Officers are making the scene and advising of the order and requesting that the crowds disperse. Thus far, most are complying with the dispersal notification. “

Memphis mayor extends safer-at-home order, says COVID-19 task force must increase testing to contain

Monday, Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland told residents they’ll have to hunker down for weeks longer.

"We need to starve the virus. Now is the time for all of us to double down on our actions," said Strickland.

Strickland extended the city’s safer-at-home order until April 21st. City employees will be stationed at parks to ensure adequate social distancing is being followed.

Memphis mental health hotline sees increase in calls during pandemic

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - In these uncertain times, many people are feeling confused, anxious or even depressed. That has led to an increase in the number of calls to a local mental health hotline number.

Mike Labonte, Executive Director Memphis Crisis Center, says the COVID-19 pandemic is taking its toll.

“We’ve already heard from some people who have lost a loved one," said Labonte. “We’ve heard from people who are worried and concerned, people who are dealing with isolation."

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - We have learned a third doctor and a nurse now say they have been fired after raising concerns about COVID-19 safety measures inside hospitals.

The doctors worked in North Mississippi facilities, two in Oxford. We talked with one of the doctors who has hired an attorney. She says she was fired within hours of trying to keep patients and her staff safe.

Another doctor worried there was not enough Personal Protection Equipment in her hospital

U.S. President Donald Trump said he asked "leading companies" to contact officials in London about therapies that could help Johnson, calling them complex treatments recently developed by the unnamed firms.

"We have contacted all of Boris' doctors, and we'll see what's going to take place, but they are ready to go," Trump told reporters.

Guessing it's not fish tank cleaner.

16 Shelby County churches accused of violating 'Safer at Home' order

The Shelby County Health Department checked on all the churches but said only some of them were not in compliance with the order.

“We’re treating churches just as we’re treating all other nonessential businesses,” said Dr. Bruce Randolph with the health department said.

Oh boy, that statement is likely to set the crazies off about nonessential.

Shelby County is Memphis area.
