MADISON - The Republican-led Legislature's budget committee is holding up reimbursements to two counties for their recount costs.

President Donald Trump's campaign paid $3 million for recounts in Dane and Milwaukee counties, Wisconsin's two most Democratic areas.

But two top Republicans said Friday they were withholding the money from the counties for now. They did not explain why.

Lawmakers "are playing politics with money that isn't theirs," said Milwaukee County Clerk George Christenson.

"It's acting in bad faith," he said. "It's not their money. It's Trump's money and this is what he decided to spend it on."

Sidney Powell, the former Trump campaign attorney behind a series of “Kraken” lawsuits challenging the results of the 2020 election in multiple states where the president lost the popular vote, appears to have misled courts as to the qualifications of one of her key witnesses.

Powell’s team described the witness in question as a “Military Intelligence expert” who would provide unambiguous proof that voting systems used in the election were compromised. The witness was known only as “Spyder” to protect him from an “established pattern of witness and attorney harassment and coercion,” Powell’s team wrote. But a Friday report from the Washington Post revealed that “Spyder,” whose real name is Joshua Merritt, was actually an army vehicle mechanic who had never even worked in military intelligence.

According to the report, the 43-year-old Merritt is an information technology consultant in Dallas who had previously been enrolled in the 305th Military Intelligence Battalion training program but failed to finish even the entry-level training course.

“[E]ven by his own account, he was only a trainee with the 305th, at Fort Huachuca in Arizona, and for just seven months more than 15 years ago,” the Post reported.

New Hampshire House Speaker (Republican) Who Died Days After Being Sworn In Had COVID-19

Richard Hinch, the newly elected speaker of New Hampshire’s Republican-led House, died of COVID-19 on Wednesday, just one week after being sworn in.

On Dec. 2, Hinch attended the swearing-in ceremony for state legislators, where several of his fellow Republicans were seen maskless. Many Democrats didn’t show up to the ceremony, after an unspecified number of Republican members of the legislature tested positive for the virus following an indoor, maskless Nov. 20 caucus meeting at a ski resort.

“There are no persons present who either tested positive or who were close contacts,” Hinch said in a statement to the New Hampshire Union-Leader on Dec. 2. “This meeting day is required by the state Constitution, and we were able to get it off the ground while keeping people safe.” Hinch was 71.

“Speaker Hinch was a fierce defender of the New Hampshire Advantage, a close friend, and a respected public servant,” Republican Gov. Chris Sununu said. “His loss will be greatly felt by the people of this state, and I ask Granite Staters to join me in praying for his family during this incredibly difficult time.”

The White House is planning to host as many as 20 indoor holiday parties this season, even as its own coronavirus task force warns states that the pandemic is "in a very dangerous place" and top health officials have cautioned against indoor celebrations.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany shrugged off the concerns that the gatherings could set a bad example for Americans as they head into the holiday season.

"If you can loot businesses, burn down buildings, engage in protests, you can also go to a Christmas party. You can celebrate the holiday of Christmas, and you can do it responsibly," she told reporters. "We will engage in the celebration of Christmas," added McEnany, who tested positive for the coronavirus during an outbreak in the White House in October.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Russia didn’t have to lift a finger.

In the weeks before the U.S. presidential election, federal authorities warned that Russia or other foreign countries might spread false information about the results to discredit the legitimacy of the outcome.

Turns out, the loudest megaphone for that message belonged not to Russia but to President Donald Trump, who has trumpeted a blizzard of thoroughly debunked claims to proclaim that he, not President-elect Joe Biden, was the rightful winner.

The resulting chaos is consistent with longstanding Russian interests to sow discord in the United States and to chip away at the country’s democratic foundations and standing on the world stage. If the 2016 election raised concerns about foreign interference in U.S. politics, the 2020 contest shows how Americans themselves, and their leaders, can be a powerful source of disinformation without other governments even needing to do the work.

“For quite a while at this point, the Kremlin has been able to essentially just use and amplify the content, the false and misleading and sensational, politically divisive content generated by political officials and American themselves” rather than create their own narratives and content, said former CIA officer Cindy Otis, vice president for analysis at the Alethea Group, which tracks disinformation.

On his partially-eponymous television program last week, Carlson regaled viewers with tales of dead voters who had reportedly voted fraudulently in Georgia, a story that included the electoral resurrection of a woman named Deborah Jean Christiansen.

But a report by CNN’s Konstantin Toropin, Daniel Dale, and Amara Walker reveals that Ms. Christiansen is very much alive, answering knocks on her door, and in fact did vote for Trump — in 2016. This year, she voted for then-soon-to-be-President-elect Joe Biden.....
