The MSM has Afghan people on their shows ...

thanking them for helping America in Afghanistan. What kind of arrogant BS is that? Seriously. I'm speechless. As far as I'm concerned we deserve every and any repercussion from the last 20 years. All of this hype is BS. Sorry people are dying, sorry women are being persecuted like they are in untold other countries around the world, including our own. Sorry, we cant fix the world. I'm embarrassed that the media is saying thank you for supporting the US. Thats just fucked up.

IN court of Appeals denies states stay request on Fed. UI benefits

A superior court issued an injunction on 6/25 ordering the state to reinstate Fed. UI benefits they stopped on 6/19 until an original lawsuit can be decided. The state appealed wanting a stay of that order. The Appeals court denied the request for stay of that order today forcing the state to re-enter the Fed program immediately and to pay all weeks back to the 19th until the original lawsuit against them can be heard and decided. Small victories against these fascist repuke assholes.

Judge grants injunction to temporarily continue Pandemic unemployment payments

Of all the states cutting the Pandemic UI early IN was in a unique position in that there is a Statute on the books that requires the state to give out any and all UI insurance the federal govt gives/offers them. A lawsuit was filed a couple of weeks ago by Indiana Legal Services on behalf of all citizens of the state and an emergency injunction hearing was requested this week to have the state reinstate Pandemic UI benefits immediately, which were cutoff on the 19th, until the lawsuit is settled. That injunction was granted today requiring the State to continue payments.
This was just issued. There is more info at Indiana Legal Services FB page.

Record breaking late season snow in Indiana

I'm about 60 miles NE of Indy and have measured 4.5 sticking to the ground. Record in Indy this late in the season was 2.4" set in 1897. That record should be broken. Won't get much attention as it will all begin melting in about 6 hours but a pretty significant weather event none the less.

Is there a DU thread for mushroom hunting?

If not would this be the place to start it? That is if anyone would be interested. Found my first half dozen black morels today in central IN.

I am done being sick to my stomach

40 years I've heard the left denounce gun violence, the right defend, falsely, the 2nd amendment right for individuals to own guns unimpeded. I am so tired of promises from the left that we're going to fix this. I am so tired of the right saying guns don't kill people do. I'M FUCKING TIRED OF BOTH SIDES BULLSHIT!! I can't drive a car without it being registered, without a history of that car's ownership. Both sides need to get the fucking money out of their pockets and do the hard thing. Democrats are just as guilty, they've had opportunity's, Democrats are not immune to this sickness damnit. Go ahead kick me off here for saying something bad about the left again. This couldve been solved 30 years ago but the left didn't stand up when they had the chance.

How is a potentially 2 trillion dollar or more infrastructure bill going to work

This is a question I've asked myself over and over for years. We all know we need to address it. We all know it will be massive. It could, and probably will, end up being the largest most expensive undertaking this country has ever attempted. If we're going to do it, it better not be half assed like defense spending.

But how are we going to do it? Roughly 60% of the people in this country live in towns of 15k or less, roughly 40% of those in towns of 500 or less. Those folks are going to be expected to be treated fairly on the same field as the bigger metropolises. Good luck high fiving a major project in a big city while those folks are still changing shocks on their cars every year because the roads suck, or are still buying bottled water while the news worthy cities get the improvements all towns need in this country.
Where is this money going to go? Who is going to distribute it and on what grounds? Nobody can expect someone in small town Iowa who needs a crumbling bridge over a small river to not get it fixed because a huge bridge in a major metro area is eating up 10's of millions. There are thousands of small towns nation wide that need the water infrastructure updated, a thousand Flints out there. Who decides which ones get the money and for that matter, make sure that money gets spent properly and fairly? Roads are more than interstates now. What about areas that want infrastructure improvement to continue or introduce trucking and rail service for small companies that say NYC could give a shit but locally might supply 500 jobs?
An infrastructure bill is desperately needed but this isn't the 50's, i.e. the interstates are there. We won't be building new we will be doing badly needed maintenance to what is there first then building anew for the coming century. Throw upgrading the power grid in there. Is Mexico Indiana going to get their grid upgraded? To be honest its the small town folks that make up more than half this country who always feel like they get left out by the big coastal cities east and west and the ones in between. These places are the breeding ground of Former Guyism for that simple fact.
We need to do it but IMO it needs to be done in a way thats never been done before. Unless it's done very precisely, very fairly, very realistically a huge infrastructure bill could go down as one of the biggest boondongles in history.
I do not envy anyone, either side of the political spectrum, anyone who is given the responsibility to make it work, literally anyone involved. It has failure written all over it unless we can be blessed with some extremely intelligent individuals to pull it off. Scary stuff if you ask me. We hire these folks they better pull it off.

When it comes to Republicans trying to suppress the vote, one should be wary. That's why..

I always try to look for less than obvious reasons when Republicans try to enact widespread actions like these as they are masters of deceit and misdirection. Since HR1 would overturn many of these laws this could possibly be them setting up for a massive defense of these laws in the courts via suits against parts of HR1 should it pass. With over 240 suppression laws trying to get passed at state and local levels they may be able to flood the court system with suits based on a myriad of legal grounds that would make the legal contesting of the last election pale in comparison. Even though none of those were successful, it did reveal a willingness of many district judges and even SCOTUS to give election focused suits by the states more merit i.e. if they were, in some cases, filed earlier before the election, amongst many other "technicalities". The recent AZ case could be seen as taking the temperature of the courts in such cases and that didn't look good.

I'm not sure that if HR1 passed it would immediately overturn many of the changes in these states or if Republican's lawsuits, perhaps already prepped, printed and ready to be instantly filed, would delay HR1 from taking effect until maybe some of the more Constitutional based suits, and there will be many of those, will be resolved. The shear number of potential suits sounds quite daunting to me. Wherever HR1 ends up I could see the legal battle, from either side potentially, going into the 2022 election and that could turn into a media driven mess bigger than we just had.

If these new voter sanction laws stand in these states for whatever reason we're going to need 50 Stacy Abrams nationwide. There's potentially everything on the line as I'm sure you all are aware.

I'm no Stacy Abrams nor did I play her on TV but in my state in IN I'm already trying to do my part in the party to unseat our local fascist Sen. Mike Braun. It will be a "Syisysuphusian" task locally, but think its possible. We all need to engage now. JMHO
