Civil Rights Leaders Pressure Biden to do More to help pass voting rights bills

https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/13/politics/biden-voting-rights-speech-black-leaders/index.html

Black leaders say Biden has not acted swiftly enough on voting rights as a growing number of states pass laws that restrict voting access. His address in Philadelphia comes less than a week after the President met with the leaders of several civil rights organizations at the White House.

Passing voting rights legislation has been an uphill battle for Democrats because of the filibuster, which means their slim majority in the Senate isn't enough to overcome GOP opposition. Moderate Democrats have opposed major changes to the rules, making the future of new voting laws unclear. Biden has also stopped short of supporting elimination of the filibuster but has expressed openness to making the practice harder to execute.

Biden….has the power to influence lawmakers and that it would be an "epic fail" if the President doesn't take a stand against the filibuster.

This was a parallel effort matching their efforts to get the results they wanted in Georgia. The Arizona recount has been stopped
"Then-President Donald Trump tried to speak directly with the chair of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors in the weeks after the November 2020 election as his allies sought to change the election results in a state he narrowly lost to Democrat Joe Biden. New records obtained by The Arizona Republic reveal the behind-the scenes efforts by Trump, his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, and state GOP Chair Kelli Ward to pressure the county supervisors, who make up the elected body that oversees elections in the state's most populous county," the newspaper reported.

"Much of the attention from Trump's allies was focused on Supervisor Clint Hickman, the 56-year-old lifelong Republican from a prominent West Valley family that runs an egg company. At the time, Hickman chaired the five-member Republican-controlled board, a position that gave him the power to set agendas, hold hearings on the election process, and certify — or delay — the 2020 election results," the newspaper explained.

Why is DeJoy Still in Charge of the Postal Service?

https://mauinow.com/2021/06/22/hawaiʻi-attorney-general-joins-coalition-to-stop-more-us-post-office-service-cuts/

Hawaiʻi Attorney General Clare E. Connors joined a group of 21 attorneys general and two cities to oppose Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s efforts to increase delivery times for First-Class Mail and other essential postal services.

As part of the USPS’ Strategic Plan, it seeks to further degrade service standards with more than 30
percent of contiguous First-Class Mail subject to a delivery standard of 4 or 5 days as opposed to the current standard of 2 to 3 days, the coalition said in its statement of position.
