About Me

Thank you Democratic Underground for keeping me sane for the last four years. I think I was probably the longest lurker here. I started following DU during the Dubya administration. I was first attracted to the "Top Ten Conservative Idiots of the Week." I've been following along ever since. I always felt guilty for not participating, but refrained from doing so because I already spend way too much time online. However, after recent events, I just can't sit back any longer. I had to log on and thank you folks for all that you do. I'm a retired TV newscast director with forty years experience and more than eighteen thousand broadcasts under my belt, most of them live. I now travel the country (when I can) shooting landscape, astro and wildlife photography. You can see some of my photos at Ross-Kestin.Pixels.com or on Instagram at @oldguywithacamera. Thanks again! Not for the squeamish

You can't just walk by a perfectly good spider when you own a cool new macro lens.

So cool.

I'm jazzed because my airshow pics are showing up on DU's front page under the "cool" heading. I'm not sure how that happens, but it's nice to see.

Here are the rest of my airshow pics.

I shot more than six thousand frames, but I'm worn out from editing pics. These will have to do for a while.

The teams are the U.S.A.F. Thunderbirds, the R.C.A.F. Snowbirds, and the U.S.N. Blue Angels.

Thank you all for your support. Enjoy!

Griffith Park Observatory

For those of you who aren't familiar with Los Angeles, this is the Griffith Park Observatory, seen in the movies "Rebel Without A Cause" and "La La Land." I met up with some photographer friends in the predawn hours to get a shot of the observatory with the lights of Downtown L.A. in the distance. Unfortunately, the fog was not cooperating, and I managed to get just a few shots in before the city lights disappeared.

We just got back from Utah.

Here is a friendly Osprey.

For those who are interested, this was shot with a Canon R5, RF 100-500mm lens at 500mm, 1/3200sec, F/8, ISO 1600, full image stabilization, processed with Snapseed.

More pics to come soon.

Congratulations to Legger for their successful contest entry.

Legger's very first post on DU was the photograph of the hummingbird, "Coming In For A Landing," in the August photo contest. It was tied for second place with two other great photos.

I've known Legger for thirty eight years. We first met when I dropped off a roll of Tri-X at her family's custom B&W Photo Lab in 1983. Fortunately for me, I had the good sense to marry her! Leslie and I celebrated our thirty sixth anniversary earlier this year. There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that I married her for the free photoprocessing.

Leslie isn't able to start a thread since she is still a new DU member, so she asked me to thank everyone for their support.
