NASA says Russian media allegations US astronaut drilled hole in ISS 'not credible'Space Daily
The claims made by Russian media that NASA Astronaut Serena Aunon-Chancellor had a nervous breakdown and damaged a Russian spacecraft to get home are not credible, Kathy Lueders, who is leading NASA's human spaceflight program, said at a press conference on Friday.
Russia's TASS recently published a story, citing an unnamed source in the Russian Space Agency Roscosmos, that claimed Aunon-Chancellor had an emotional breakdown in space and she made a microfracture in the Russian spacecraft to return early during a mission in 2018.
"Absolutely," Lueders said when asked whether NASA will defend its astronaut. "Our NASA crews perform their missions with professionalism and integrity. She [Aunon-Chancellor] is a well-respected crew member who has served her country and made a valuable contribution. I stand behind her and her professional conduct and I did not find this accusation credible."

Booster shots for the immunocompromised likely coming soon
Booster shots for the immunocompromised likely coming soon (Axios)The Biden administration is actively working toward making a recommendation that certain immunocompromised people receive an additional dose of coronavirus vaccine, two sources familiar with the discussions tell Axios.
Why it matters: Two shots of Pfizer and Moderna's mRNA vaccines don't generate strong levels of protection in some immunocompromised people. But data suggests a third shot could significantly boost their response.
What we're watching: A recommendation is likely to come "very soon," according to a source familiar with internal discussions. A senior Biden official agreed that the recommendation is likely to be issued soon, but said there's no firm timeline.

'Not the plan': Guatemalan migrants lament fast-track deportations (Reuters)
'Not the plan': Guatemalan migrants lament fast-track deportations (Reuters)GUATEMALA CITY, Aug 4 (Reuters) - Guatemala has begun to receive flights of undocumented migrants sent back from the United States under a new policy allowing fast-track expulsions for some families at the U.S.-Mexico border, Guatemalan and U.S. authorities said on Wednesday.
The measure announced by U.S. officials last week, called "expedited removal," applies to families that have not sought U.S. asylum or who do not qualify, and comes as border arrests in recent months have risen to 20-year highs.
A flight from Brownsville, Texas, arrived in Guatemala on Wednesday with 16 families comprising 50 people, including a number of young toddlers carried off the plane in their parents' arms.

Typical that they focus on the transgender aspect, which really has no relevance to the crime.
Chris Chan story in Daily Fail
Garbles it of course, but the real story is that it's even a story.
Trans YouTuber Chris Chan, 39, is listed as female in police report and will be jailed with women inmates despite 'arrest for raping her dementia sufferer mother, 79'
Transgender YouTuber Chris Chan, 39, was identified as female by police and will be housed with women despite being biologically male, after she was arrested for raping her mother.
The vlogger and artist, who goes by Christine Weston Chandler, was arrested after leaked phone calls allegedly revealed her admitting to raping her mother, 79, who suffers from dementia.
Chandler is being held in Central Virginia Regional Jail alongside 59 other detainees. She was jailed without bail on suspicion of incest, a felony punishable by up to 12 years in prison.
Chandler is biologically male but came out as a transgender woman at the end of 2014.

3 Texas men sentenced for using Grindr to target gay men for violent crimes (NBC)
3 Texas men sentenced for using Grindr to target gay men for violent crimes (NBC)Three Texas men were sentenced yesterday for violent crimes.
Michael Atkinson, 28, Pablo Ceniceros-Deleon, 21, and Daryl Henry, 24, were sentenced to prison terms for their involvement in a scheme to target gay men for violent crimes. Atkinson was sentenced to over 11 years in prison, Ceniceros-Deleon was sentenced to 22 years in prison, and Henry was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
These three men participated in and committed acts of violence against innocent victims because they believed the victims were gay men, said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Departments Civil Rights Division. This type of bias-motivated violence runs contrary to our values and violates our federal civil rights laws. The Department of Justices Civil Rights Division will aggressively investigate and prosecute those who target members of the LGBTQI community.
These defendants brutalized multiple victims, singling them out due to their sexual orientation. We cannot allow this sort of violence to fester unchecked, said Acting U.S. Attorney Prerak Shah for the Northern District of Texas. The Department of Justice is committed to prosecuting hate crimes. In the meantime, we urge dating app users to remain vigilant. Unfortunately, predators often lurk online.
One of the FBIs top priorities is to defend the civil rights of the communities we serve. We actively work with our law enforcement partners to investigate hate crimes and achieve justice for the victims impacted by these violent crimes, said Special Agent in Charge Matthew J. DeSarno of the FBI Dallas Field Office. The victims in this case were specifically targeted because of their sexual orientation. The FBI wants to reassure the public that we will pursue individuals who commit violent hate acts against any member of our community.

Op-Ed in the Daily Fail, which makes the story all the more telling when you think about it.

PIERS MORGAN: America's anti-vaxxer lunatics are snatching covid defeat from the jaws of vaccinated victory with their conspiracy-theory garbage and must be stopped from destroying everybody's freedomOp-Ed in the Daily Fail, which makes the story all the more telling when you think about it.

Put bluntly, a lot of deluded, ill-informed, shamefully scare-mongered, or simply complacent Americans have got it into their heads that either the covid vaccines are somehow more dangerous than covid itself, or the virus isn't serious enough to warrant protection from it.
Some of these sceptics believe the insane conspiracy-theory that the US Government is using vaccines to plant microchips in their heads to control their minds. (Don't laugh: a recent Economist/YouGov poll revealed that 20% of Americans really do suspect this.)
Many more, tens of millions of people across the United States, are hesitant to get jabbed for all manner of other reasons ranging from doubts about the vaccine's efficacy, to a fear they impair fertility, damage pregnancy, alter DNA, magnetize you, or even actively help transmit the virus.

Mississippi asks the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade (CNN)
Mississippi asks the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade (CNN)Mississippi's attorney general told the Supreme Court on Thursday that Roe v. Wade was "egregiously wrong" and should be overturned as she urged the justices to allow a controversial law that bars most abortions after 15 weeks to go into effect.
"The conclusion that abortion is a constitutional right has no basis in text, structure, history, or tradition" state Attorney General Lynn Fitch told the justices in a new brief, launching the opening salvo in the most important abortion-related dispute the court has heard in decades.
