In reply to the discussion: Who in your life do you hope will apologize for voting for Trump? [View all]ChoppinBroccoli
(3,781 posts)I don't even really know who he is anymore, and I can tell you that I've lost a TON of respect for him. When I first met him, he was fiercely independent, claimed to be a Libertarian who was all about freedom, but was very liberal in a lot of regards. But when Trump burst onto the scene, I remember him telling me he couldn't say exactly why, but he just loved Trump. Later he said he liked him because he thought it was funny when he was rude to the other candidates. He has now abandoned every independent ideal he ever had and is a full-blown member of the Trump Cult. The man can do no wrong in his eyes, and he's changed HIS opinions on issues to better fit in with the Trump policies.
The other day he told me that if the Trump presidency did nothing else, it proved to him conclusively that there is a Deep State controlling everything in this country. So I already know that he'll never apologize. When Trump goes down, it will simply be yet more proof to him that the Deep State was afraid of a Washington Outsider coming in and making changes. It's sad, really, because I once knew him to be an intelligent, deep thinker. But he's checked all of that at the door to become a member of the Trump Cult. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that if Trump went on TV and told him to drink poisoned Kool Aid, he would be dead before sundown.
