Are they honest?
Are they reasonably intelligent?
Do they have a thick skin and a rigid spine?
Are they tolerant and thoughtful?
Are they at least somewhat idealistic?

If they are favorably regarded after these questions are answered, who cares about that list of irrelevancies?
