In reply to the discussion: The Roseanne revival is incredibly honest about life in Trump's America [View all]EffieBlack
(14,249 posts)60. You don't find it strange that they injected "color" into the show by casting a cute black child but
the black adult who could actually push back on Rosanne is conveniently out of sight and silent?
All the better to show how supposedly not-racist Trump supporters are without having to actually confront any difficult race issues face to face with an actual black person over the age of 10.
I guess DJ can occasionally speak up for black folk since he is, after all, he has proven how so not racist he is because he married an invisible black woman and can be our voice when he so chooses. And since having an actual real live grown-assed black woman speaking for herself would be divisive.
Still totally not impressed.

OP
Except Carroll O'Connor was a liberal. He wasn't a Nixon humper in real life.

Alt-right? Roseanne is now a white nationalist? Where exactly did you get that?

Also, the point of All in the Family was to show how ridiculous and backward Archie's views were

There are a number of appearances and characters coming up in future episodes.

You think that having a black child on the show isn't "tokenism" but having a black adult on is?

When I was a kid I remember my friend's father was reading The Gulag Archipelago, pretty dense stuff

I disagree. They portrayed Roseannes sister as an unhinged nutjob liberal woman.

And yet here we are discussing it. Sit-coms have often been social commentary.

I love how they stick a black grandchild in there to prove how so not racist Roseanne is

Meh, I'm rather tired of the recent trend of revivials of old shows on TV.
