1. Like Elizabeth Warren, we were always told that our ancestry included Native American heritage.

The story was that 8 generations back, a family member had married the proverbial "Indian Princess". The story was commonly accepted. One branch of our family tree originated in Oklahoma (Warren's birthplace) and several members of my Dad's family had a strong Native American physical appearance (black hair, deep complexion, high cheek bones, lack of facial hair etc.). I have seen a drawing done by Charles Banks Wilson as part of his documentation of the Eastern Oklahoma tribes that I could have sworn was my grandmother.

However, A DNA test told us another story. 97% European and 3% sub Saharan African.
