Sources confirm that the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department is working a significant break in the search for the East Area Rapist.
An arrest in the decadeslong case has been made. The department said it hopes to release further information Wednesday.
Police believe the East Area Rapist or Golden State Killer was responsible for 12 homicides, almost 50 rapes and 120 home burglaries that spanned a decade starting in the late 1970s in Sacramento County.

Not much more at the link, yet

Patton Oswald's late wife, Michelle McNamara, wrote a book on him. It was published after her death.

“I’ll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman’s Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer” tells his story.
Comedian Patton Oswalt’s late wife, Michelle McNamara, first became obsessed with the tale years ago, writing about the case on her True Crime Diary blog and in several magazine pieces.
