There is zero chance of her getting away with that even twenty years ago.
There is a privilege that exists in America even more powerful than white privilege - celebrity privilege. Celebrities can get away with anything. Look at your Roman Polanskis, your Sean Penns, your Bryan Singers, etc. They get away with some of the most heinous behavior. Not just get away with it, but honored despite it.
Hollywood types are protected in ways that 99% of white people could never dream of.
Roseanne's shit was tolerated because she could generate cash. Once she became so toxic that no one would work with her and the show would likely hemorrhage viewers and advertisers, she was outta there.
I mildly enjoyed the reboot. There's no way on earth I'd patronize the show next year. Not after that. Society draws lines. Roseanne just ran into a big one.
