In reply to the discussion: Pelosi & Schumer: Trump "duty is to protect American people, not to sell out our democracy to Putin" [View all]LiberalLovinLug
(14,173 posts)The problem is not that they sent out yet another strongly worded statement. Its that what once were regarded as strongly worded statements are now very weak sauce, redundant, and disappear after even less than the 24 hour news cycle. Nothing new. Its preaching to the choir for the most part.
This is why we need new leadership. I'm about ready to just hand the nomination over to Avenatti at this point, as no Democrat seems bold enough to use the T word let alone make the GOP even squirm an inch. The statements coming from the lips of our leaders should be getting the GOP leaders foaming and spitting and stuttering in code red defensive mode. Republicans have used this tactic for decades now. Say things that contain such outrageous charges, that any Dem's time as a guest on a news network is spent in defensive mode...which inherently suggests they are guilty of something. Where there's smoke...
Its easy to believe the Republic is strong enough to withstand this attempted fascist coup, that all we need is some tsk tsk's and all it will take is a mild turn of the rudder to right the ship. But as time goes on, and Trump continues to consolidate his people into positions of influence in the Mueller investigation's survival, appointing judges, etc. the time is long overdue to stop speaking about what is happening at present, at some present day tweet, but at what MAY happen in the future, and project that concern into today's present day language. Fiery language, inflammatory language even. Anything that will get attention because Trump is winning the Reality TV wars. He's not afraid to shout out something shocking and controversial on a daily basis. We can't even cause a ripple even when we have so much actual shocking content to expose and get angry about.
"profoundly disturbing signal" "a grave step backward" really?
Even "not to sell out our democracy to Putin" is so last year. How about saying he is a traitor to the country and should be brought up on charges of treason. That he is signing up America into a new Axis of Evil club? That he is willing to enrich himself and his family over the national security of the county? And keep repeating these points over and over and over.
