...Republicans can't be racist, because it was a Republican who freed the slaves. Putting aside the fact that Lincoln was no abolitionist and freeing slaves was not his primary goal, the "party of Lincoln" line is foolish.

Today's Republican Party is no more the party of Lincoln than today's Democratic Party is the part of pre-1964 Strom Thurmond.
