(43,111 posts)Honesty is only part of the equation. The amounts of money are obscene, the special interests behind the ideology are manipulative. No one is saying let the people decide because they can't and are easily manipulated. Dishonesty is not often punished at the ballot box. So parties will do what they can get away with, or push until public opinion pushes back, which it rarely does against Republicans because they control so much of the media narrative. They lead the public, and the public is easily led. It's like trying to break into Fox News with a liberal platform.
When you get the other 49 states to restructure their voting without winning elections first, email me. I'd love to read that outcome. Democrats winning an honest election would mean sanity had overwhelmed the right wing fringe infrastructure. Until external events intervene - depression, war, panic - elections are won by counting votes, and sometimes we don't even do that honestly.
But I applaud your ethics. I just don't think it will lead change our direction a lot.
