How many studies and analyses have to be done to convince people that there is hardly any such thing as an "independent". There are unaffiliated Republicans and unaffiliated Democrats but those are just people who like to feel superior by claiming to be above party politics.

My mom is an "independent" but has never and will never vote for a Republican, and my father in law is an "independent" who has never and will never vote for a Democrat. both claim to be "moderate" and "independent". Neither are either such thing.

Trying to find some magical way in to get either of those types of people to vote for the other side is wasted time, effort, and money. If and when they vote they vote by party lines just as frequently as hyper partisans.

The key is not messaging it is getting out the vote.
