United Kingdom had been at war with Nazi-Germany two years when US decided to get into the fry - after them self was attached by the Japaneses at Pearl Harbor in 1941. And it is a fact, that the UK government by 1941, was the only nation who was really fighting the germans - USSR had been more or less overrun by the summer of 1941, with most of the european parts of Russia occupied and devastated by the war.. United Kingdom was on their knees under the attack from Luftwaffe and the U-Boat service, who hit ships sailing to UK as they wanted.. The United States was not willing - or able to go into the war in 1939, or 1940, it took Pearl Harbor for the United States to really understand that they could not just hide their heads in the sand, and take the hard currency the UK had, to buy hardware and food for the sivilians... In fact, the US congress, right up to Pearl Harbor, was not interesting in helping UK to much - but was happy getting their hard currency, even thought they did know, 50 percent of the hardware necessary to fight a modern war, mostly would end up on the ocean floor before it could reach UK... FDR had, at least tried to make a case for more direct involvement in the war in Europe, but had a hard time convincing the Congress and the Senate it was a smart move to give UK the necessary credits - and to get more involved.. The fear of meddle into a war in Europe was great in the US, and the isolationist was powerfully, right up to December 7th 1941.. The next day, no one called them self isolationist anymore.. And by the end of world war two, US emerged as the most powerfully nation on the face of the planet - as most of Europe was devastated, and the cold war, with all its stupidity more or less divided Europe in two - for more than 40 year.. one of the reasons the US was emerging as the only, most powerfully nation in the world, was maybe because of the fact, that most of the rest was devastated, and it would take them years and years to just get up to prewar level... But we was given the Marshall help plan, who made the possibility for Europe to rebound in less than 15 years time (or at least, west-europe as the eastern part, was dominated by USSR, and was not allowed to loan from the founds made possible by the Marshall plan )
