If Flake votes No he makes a name for himself. Republicans will still appoint the next SCOTUS nominee anyway. The new nominee will not be the albatross Kavanaugh is going to be for the Republican Party. If Flake wants to run against Trump, he'll be the frontrunner. He'll be the guy who got Republicans a better nominee than Kavanaugh, and he'll be the guy who voted principle. He'll be the anti-Trump in the GOP primary, and they'll be looking for one.
