They have gone to great lengths to associate it with birth control. It is the ultimate slap in the face to some men. It is no accident that they pushed the abortion as birth control narrative. After multiple religious denominations supported Roe during the court case, they turned on women with the wonder of childbirth as a moral issue push.
Historically compassionate people went all in against their interests not just out of social superiority. Prosperity gospel and exploitation of reproduction worked together to form a morality seeking ideology that had no problem sacrificing the well being of poor women and children at the altar of greed and horrors of loss of superior social standing.
It has grown so deeply entrenched in our culture that Democrats have not known what to do with it other than to try to placate the economic forces which have benefitted most.
It was a perfect storm and republicans have played it expertly.
