(7,880 posts)non-transparent computerized voting is most ripe for rigging elections when the odds are within the margin of error -- then with algorithms, rethugs can steal a few votes here and there from various precincts to get the desired results. I understand Michael Moore's pessimism -- we still have proprietary DREs, optiscans, centralized tabulators in all 50 states. It appears that voters are turning out in large numbers, so hopefully this will help overcome the rethug strategy of tweaking the results with the machines. We have an extreme problem with corrupt elections officials and vendors and a weakness in our system of government that allows them to operate with almost no accountability.
It's the huge turnout that is making me feel optimistic, but all voter suppression tactics need to be stamped out and elections officials held responsible for their ongoing corrupt practices.
