I say this hesitatingly, because I believe wholeheartedly in your message.

However, there are a lot of truly violent people on the other side that own guns and are eager to use them.

You also lend credence to "both side-ism" and strengthen the argument of our political enemies that the left is violent too.

Twisting the knife imagery goes too far IMO.
