without the votes of millions of older women who will never forget how he failed us in the Anita Hill hearing, because of a trait that endures to this day: wanting to be liked.

He should have been her champion, but instead he questioned her as if he was one of the prosecutors. And he shut the hearings down without letting her corroborating witnesses testify. Why? Because he had promised the R's on the committee he'd finish on a certain date. His promise to them was more important than justice for Anita Hill -- and for the Supreme Court.
