week paid in advance in Tahiti or whatever, they couldn't really make you come back home, could they? Especially if you're a relatively low level employee, say a clerk at the IRS.

I did hear a piece on NPR a day or two before the shut down, and one of the people briefly profiled was a man who works (as a guard I think, although the specific job probably isn't important) in the federal prison system. He'd already planned a hunting vacation with his family. Not sure just how much was paid for in advance and couldn't be refunded, which again, while important isn't the only point. It's the disruption of plans.

Meanwhile, Trump is making a big deal about how he's staying in the White House, sacrificing his planned vacation in Florida, as if he's actually being deprived of something.
