8 inches wide by folding the cardboard over itself with packing tape, about 3 feet long. Then use light posterboard, no bigger than 2 feet high and 1.5 across, preferrably hot pink in two layers, coming down over the handle about a foot, and secure everything with packing tape.

Words and images on front and back: You never know how it will get picked up on pic or video.

This sign will be seen well and also travel well on public transportation and in tight crowds. It's light, sturdy and allows you to hold it comfortably at the shoulder but it reaches over heads so it can be seen.

Whatever words you choose, print them out at least 2+ inches high and thick and then cut them out and fill them with black magic marker. That saves ink and also makes them pick up well in video and photos. They also read easier than hand-written.

Include an image even if you just print from the internet.

No wood or sticks, and no staples.
