A judge cannot do that. If he thought there was no evidence on which a jury could convict, then the judge could dismiss the case on motion from defense counsel.
However, he did not do that. He actually told a case pending before a jury to return a verdict of not guilty. Unbelievable. Did he graduate from law school?

BTW, did you notice the name of the paper, Herald-Zeitung? Zeitung is a German word. Has anyone in Texas demanded that they use English? I think they would if the Spanish word was used.
