Republicans engage in wishful thinking and then act or legislate as if their fantasies are truth.

Remember Limbaugh's "The Way Things Ought to Be"? This is how Republicans operate.

Thus:

"The middle class OUGHT to have health care, so we don't need any laws to make it a right."

"Workers OUGHT to be able to make ends meet, so they should be fine with wages that have the same buying power as in the 1950s."

"The air and water OUGHT to be clean, so we don't need to take action to make sure that happens."

"Blacks OUGHT to be treated as equals, so they don't need any special attentions from us."

"The budget OUGHT to be balanced, so let's reward the rich and not worry about the math."
