I can remember very well when women of child bearing age viewed abortion rights as a Godsend. Even the Protestant churches, notably Evangelicals, did not take a hard line about abortion rights but rather viewed it as a Woman's Health Issue. Also birth control was a godsend for many families and young girls. Then the politics of divide started and things have gone downhill since.

I don't know the answer - my preference would be to let women's health issue be a medical decision and not a political one. Those with deeply held religious beliefs could make personal decisions based those beliefs. But Noooooo......if there is a way to gain political power then you can bet it will find its way into American politics.

We saw the GOP go from a big business (Capitalism) first party, to the party of morals, to family values, to now who knows what? You can certainly take any sort of values out of the equation.

If Roe v Wade were overturned by the SCOTUS then maybe that might change things around? I just don't know. I'm thinking that maybe a minority-majority will probably be a bigger influence or maybe even the Millennials might be a sea change?? I suspect I won't live long enough to see any sort of social cohesiveness but you never know what the future will bring.

I do know that this present tribalism in the US cannot be good for any of us and will probably end badly.
