15. I'll accept "unwitting" in a very narrow sense

And that is that Trump and most of his amateur hour campaign people had and have no idea what government is or does or how it functions. There's no sin in that; I, too, am ignorant of many of the inner workings of government.

But if I were to campaign for office, I'd make real sure I had a couple of experienced hands on my team to ask questions of and get advice from. Trump and his people didn't have even that modicum of common sense. So, when they were contacted by Russian agents offering services of dubious legitimacy, none of them knew that your first call in such a situation is supposed to be to the FBI. Instead, they met with one another to figure out how to exploit the offer to the best advantage, and the people who knew better either kept their traps shut or were ignored when they said the FBI needed to be notified. At that point, we are out of that very narrow path of "unwitting" and speeding toward willful ignorance and illegality.

They didn't know any better. They should have known better. When they knew better, they continued to act like they didn't know any better, and that "unwitting" excuse was out the window.

I think that Trump is dumb enough that he does not even realize when someone manipulates him question everything Apr 2019 #1
