The risk is very low. Dramatically disrupting school life is not called for with such a low risk. We could spend ourselves to bankruptcy in every school district and still not prevent every event. Hell, some options like metal detectors actually help an attack. The mass queuing of people with limited exits makes them very vulnerable to an attack from the rear where a shooter would hardly need to aim.
