(37,648 posts)My parents are Trumpers and believe what the Trumpers you know believe. But my parents aren't normal. Well, it's my 86 year old father and his 14 year younger wife. They are idiots and not nice people, when it comes to minorities, Muslims, people who get govt assistance, etc.
But I do take issue with your statement that the ACA slowed the runaway rise in medical costs for everyone. Maybe it did that for many or some, or maybe generally. I don't know. But MY medical costs more than doubled from 2013 to 2018, and my deductible skyrocketed fro $1,000 to $6,000 and back down to $4,500, making it a catastrophic policy only (except it's illegal for the ACA to sell catastrophic policies, so they didn't call it that). I LOSE health care in 2014, when the ACA went into effect. For most of 2014 to 2018, I couldn't find a doctor to take it.
This was not a really unusual thing to happen. There were many middle class and older Americans yelling about this. When no one paid attention, some of them voted for Trump. He was paying attention.
I don't approve of their votes. But just sayin'. The Democrats are still not addressing how the ACA affects many in the older, middle class category. Except now there it's not as critical, because the ACA has been modified to address their concerns. They still don't have good health coverage, but it's better for them. (As for me, I qualified for Medicare last year.)
