World War II - 531st Transportation Corps. He went ashore in Normandy on Day 6.

My paternal grandfather, Thomas -- he didn't serve, but died of the Spanish flu after spending time at Camp Grant in northern Illinois embalming soldiers who had died of the flu.

My paternal great-grandfather, Michael -- 58th Illinois Volunteers infantry unit, Civil War.
