And his father let's him get crucified. If god was interested in changing the world, he would have allowed Jesus to live and walk the earth forever. But this is fiction we are dealing with. So the ending needed to be harsh and bloody with the promise of a sequel. It's that promise of a sequel that has really fucked things up for the last 2000 years.
