I suspect the same of some other sighters. The military has made it abundantly clear for decades they want strange sightings and occurrences ignored.
I also saw this, in 1957, but....
Until the 1960s, most scientists treated reports of ball lightning skeptically, despite numerous accounts from around the world.

"Proven by science" leaves out a lot of stuff humans know they have experienced.
