Another thing that upsets me about these stories is that, and I'm not faulting the guy, but he gives a nod to the nosy nancy, as in, without her, I wouldn't have gotten any help. It reminds me of a similar occurence when a person is bullied and has to deal with it, sometimes for years, and then someone says that you can thank your bully for making you a stronger person. I was bullied all during high school. Did I learn to cope? Yes, mostly by building a wall around myself which shut out more peers than I should have. It created an isolation. I won't thank them just because I learned to survive their cruelty.
