65. I think it's an outrage thing

Nothing is working. The white supremacist that currently calls the WH home is, it seems, unstoppable. No matter what he says or does is slurped up by his cult with absolutely no push-back. Hell, it's slurped up - with requests for more - by republican legislators. Every single one of his cabinet secretaries - including the actings - is unqualified and unhinged. The rule of law applies only to underlings. Not to trump and not to those cabinet secretaries and acting secretaries.

Dems and those of us in the reality-based universe condemn and mock. Charlie Pierce, Paul Krugman, Charles Blow, Timothy Egan - and scores of others mock and condemn and lament. But nothing happens.

AOC and Elizabeth Warren write heart-wrenching accounts of what they saw at the concentration camps, and nothing happens. Private FB groups of border patrol members document the hatred, contempt, and white supremacy that they have toward immigrants and asylum seekers. And nothing happens.

Calls for Pelosi to impeach - or, hell, just to do something - result in. . . nothing. You wanna know what will come from Mueller's testimony? Nothing.

So, sure, the threads calling for action might be falling (if in fact they are), but there's a reason. Nothing happens. And now we have Democratic candidates discussing school busing. School busing FFS. And trump then comments on, well, that's a way to get to school, so what's the big deal. And, yes, he's a fucking moron. And we all have a good laugh. And then what? Nothing happens.

And now we're all saying, well, we'll have to vote him out next year. Great. That might work. But not when the Democratic Party looks like a giant clown car of candidates. And what if it doesn't work? What if the republicans have gamed the system to the extent that they can repeat 2016? Then what? And what if the Dems lose their majority in the House and the balance of power doesn't change in the Senate? Then the very idea of push-back is a fantasy. Impeachment? Might has well take the word out of the dictionary.

That was so last month. Srkdqltr Jul 2019 #1
