In reply to the discussion: AOC Fires Back at 'Outright Disrespectful' Pelosi for 'Explicit Singling Out of Newly-Elected... [View all]ehrnst
(32,640 posts)151. And you've been shown that you don't keep track of what they are doing at all
so that indicates that you'd rather use them as a scapegoat than bother to find out something that might not confirm your bias.
You keep moving the goalposts so that you can feel like they are failing, no matter what they are or aren't doing.
Some of the work that Democrats have done going to the courts will go away with a new Congress in 1 1/2 years.
Trump/Barr are not trying to win cases in the courts, they are merely delaying cases in the courts.
Trump/Barr are not trying to win cases in the courts, they are merely delaying cases in the courts.
So you're now blaming congress, not for doing nothing, but for doing something that won't bear fruit RIGHT NOW, and not overcoming the fact that the AG is working directly for Trump.
God bless Speaker Pelosi, I pushed for her to be nominated Speaker,
You're not in the House of Representatives, so you didn't affect her selection, and no she doesn't answer to you personally, as Speaker, nor does she owe you a say in what she does, because you 'pushed for her.' I don't presume to know the consequences of the timing of impeachment, but I can say Pelosi knows a whole lot more than you or I do, so I'll bet her odds on knowing the best next step are way better than you or I.
It is pretty obvious that the Speaker is opposed to impeachment and hopes to beat Trump at the ballot box.
She has never taken it off the table - that's an obvious fact.
1. What if Trump wins?
What if he dies in office? What if Pence shows up in a dress? We can focus on what we are doing now, rather than wasting energy fretting about what hasn't come to pass....
I hope to hell I am dead wrong and Pelosi is right but we aren't dealing with a sane president.
Well, Pelosi knows a whole hell of a lot more than you do, so I think I'd put my money on her. And yes, we are not dealing with a sane president. We know he lashes out like a feral animal when cornered, and we know that impeachment would send him into high gear. He might do something to deflect from impeachment - like order a military strike. I believe that Pelosi calculates every public statement she makes with that in mind. Impeachment will not shorten his time in office by a single minute - so we need to balance the few remaining positives with the negatives.
But since you wanted to look ahead to 2020, let's do that.
Those Democratic Senators in swing states will be forced to vote on impeachment in a way that could end their chances for re-election. And our chances of taking back the Senate - which is our ONLY hope of undoing any of the damage Trump has inflicted - dwindle. Democratic congressmen in swing districts will be up against the same. Republican Senators have NOTHING TO LOSE by voting against impeachment. What are the positives there? That Democrats who will vote for Democrats anyway get to watch hearings and feel satisfied... and Trump supporters will call it a witch hunt... and then we're back to where we were before, but with fewer chances to actually take the Senate and keep the House.
Trump claims he's been exonerated from all charges in all investigations, and Democrats who want to moan and complain about Democrats in congress can lay it all at the feet of Pelosi and the Democrats in Congress for "failling to do anything."
Like you're doing right now.
