36. The media care only about Trump's tweets.

If the media cared about real issues facing the country, they would report on income inequality and how Republican tax policies have transferred wealth to the 1%, which now owns more than the bottom 90% of us. They would explain how that inequality transfers power away from “we the people” to a government for the rich. They would report on the corporate policies that allow big, rich corporations to hire people at minimum wage and also deny them benefits like health insurance or the opportunity to contribute to retirement savings, forcing many families to need food stamps and to go without healthcare. They would report on the effect of the gig economy where young people can only get temporary jobs with no benefits.

They would report on how and why the US economy shifted away from a manufacturing economy to a service economy and the impact that shift has had on rural communities. The majority of service jobs are in larger cities where the people are not in rural communities. They would report on the condition of infrastructure in this country and the lack of investment to fix it. They would report on the high cost of a college education and why costs are out of control. They would report on the scam for-profit universities that prey on first-generation students by charging high fees and delivering virtually worthless degrees that employers do not value. Or they go bankrupt and leave students with nothing but student loans to repay.

They would report on the scientific consensus on the causes of climate change and the role the oil companies play in preventing investments in alternative energy. They would report on the devastating effects of climate change around the world.

They would report on how Trump has cut economic aid not only to Central American countries but also around the world. They would report that the border crisis has been made much worse because Trump cut off all economic aid to El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala. They would report that Pew Research does favorability ratings around the world, and the trust in the US president went from a 64% confidence in Obama to a 74% NO CONFIDENCE in Trump. The perception of the US has also changed, with 52% of our closest European allies now holding an unfavorable view of the US.

I could go on and on, but I get so frustrated because the media mostly deals in superficialities while the country is going to hell right in front of us, led by a madman and a Republican Party that I think of as the single most destructive force that we face as we try to hang on to our democratic republic.
