Instead of telling Whites that wanted to cling to segregation and racism that they were dead wrong, republicans embraced then, abeit at arm's length. Then they invited in the evangelicals in the 80s to cling to power. Only electoral cheating has kept them relevant since 1992. Really, a Chamber of Commerce person should be a democrat, democratic Presidents have produced better economies for all but around 8 years since 1902.
