(2,992 posts)As I said in an earlier comment, I've encountered plenty of open-carriers. They were all carrying sidearms, and my primary concern wasn't the gun itself. I was more concerned with the carrier, for two reasons - 1, they were mostly elderly (some very much so), and I'd be worried about whether they had the physical stability to aim correctly should they draw their handgun, and 2, many - not all, but many - open-carriers drink large amounts of right-wing toilet water and are quick to see a threat where none may exist.
This seems to be far more true for open-carriers than for concealed-carriers.
The issue isn't (necessarily) that an open-carrier might be a mass shooter. It's that such a person might decide to use his or her firearm out of panic and hit the wrong target.
